The units we envy are the ones abroad - usually folk from the Netherlands - caravan - suncnopy and round the back of the caravan they put the kids in individual tents.  This is obviously better for older children.  Hae to say you need to be certain what youwant from the unit.  If it is to extend the camping season either a caravan or a folding camperwith EHU would fit the bill.  As long as there is a form of heat your season is extended.  The folders are easier to tow, but the caravan is easier to set up and pack away. ........

Hi all
I have been holidaying in tent all my life In the early 1990 as we were getting older we bought a small camper van.
Two small and cramped and could not park it in towns that went after six month and we bought a ABI Dawnstar All mod cons and always dry Val loved it I spent all my time in the awning Back to a new cabanon for a couple of years We got older new ABI Jubalee cassette toilet blown heating easy to Tow £100plus service £100 plus insurance site all like little brookside and snobbery.and I still lived in the awning.Well working life came to a end 5 years ago Income nearly halved leisure time increased Caravan went and we updated to the latest Cabanon.
Now it cost nothing to insure no service costs better sites. It can take my wife and I 4 hours to set up but we enjoy it we go as often as our funds allow probibly 10 to 12 times a year starting in march to October. March to may and September & October we have an electric hook-up with a temperature controlled heater that stays on all the time the tent is always worm In sumer We use a 12volt system with the leisure battery backed up with a 13w solar panel, this allows for a better choice of site and pitch.
One happy old man.But this is what suits us,everyone as the right to chose what suits them. And if you are reading this you are not one of those snobby campers as they would not even consider joining this forum.
Hope the weather picks up for all.
Happy Camping
Rex.

I take my hat off to all those in tents and trailer tents.

Not for me, I like being warm and dry.

When we were tent campers, your clothes always seemed to be damp.

Hi everyone

We too have gone from tenting to caravanning.  I take on board all the comments and would like to tell you what we did.

We are a family of 2 adults and 4 children 12,8 8,and 5. (3 foster children)

We bought an ERIBA craravan.  Its VERY lightweight to pull (even small cars)and it has everything a 'big' caravan has. We had never towed before buying this so quite apprehensive.  However we dont even notice it on the back!.  Its small enough to fit on the drive, has a small fibre glass poles awning so very easy to put up,( and because we use this for the children to sleep in we still feel we are doing both caravanning and camping!) and are hand built so have a beautiful finish.  Take a look at one, we have no reservations about changing.
