Sadly our caravan while on a seasonal pitch has been flooded after the recent heavy rainfall.  The flood water reached about 10 inches inside the caravan.  Does anyone know if there any chance the floor could be repaired, or would this be considered a write-off by my insurers?

Hi ,sorry to hear about your caravan. my mate had his on a storage site and had water up to the window level and Caravan guard have told him it will be a write off and pay him out in full,

We lost a static in the October 2000 floods which only had 3 inches of water in - the water seeps up the walls and the built in furniture and the van is  almost always written off because the chipboard in the built in furniture will swell. Luckily we had full insurance and got a brand new van.

If you have insurance, I wouldn't even think of trying to repair it.  If it was river water that flooded it, the residual silt will have destroyed almost everything it settled on and you would never be sure what damage was lurking unseen.  The worst thing I have ever had to do was go in and retrieve my undamaged possessions two weeks after the flood - the smell was appalling.  I feel so deeply for the poor souls whose homes have been flooded - at least we still had a home to go to!
