Hello, Recently bought a Picasso after my other car was wrote off. When hitched up on my other car (Nissan primera) the van was switched over to car to run the fridge, the red light was on, on the fridge and stayed on. This showed me it was working fine. On the Picasso when i switched over the red switch light was flashing at about a slow indicator rate. When i got to my destination everything was fine (fridge working. On leaving, i switched over from (Site mains) back to car and nothing worked. When i arrived home, i plugged my van back into mains again and the fridge would not work on mains either. checked and found a blown fuse. My question is could the flashing light on the fridge be an indication of a fault (as it used to be a static red light). The tow bar and electric are brand new 12 days old. I should mention on the fridge there is a green switch light for mains and a red switch light when connected to the car. I would be grateful if anyone can help...Thanks
A flashing red light on a fridge switch is usually the electronic gas igniter switch. It goes out when the pilot light is lit and comes on again if the pilot light blows out or the gas runs out
On the fridge there are two light switches one green for when it runs off mains and a red light switch for when it runs off the car, you use one or the other. for the gas there is an igniter button and a thermostat dial. I have just checked it again with a new fuse and nothing, but it is working off the mains. There is also power from the car to the van. So it looks like a problem with the fridge 12v side any help on what to look for would be appreciated.......Thanks
the 12v switch (red) will only work on when the engine is running and only running at high revs,to save battery it should not work on tick over.the reason for the ficker may be due to the car relay going in and out.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
we have just brought a new car and same problem, so just trying to work out now if its the car or the van electrics thats the problem. the electrics from the car to the vans indicators all working fine..just the fridge that isnt. going to hook up friends car to check his electrics first with our van, so we can work out which it is. also been online and viewed www.emoplugs.freeserve.co.uk which will test your van electrics. hope this helps
Anyone who has a pre 1998 car or van (but not both) should be aware that the 12S wiring changed slightly at that time, so best to check that your wiring is compatible on both vehicles.
Mickey......what Michael said is correct and that could have caused the red light to go on and off, but it could also be that there is second fuse on the 12v side, or maybe a fuse in the car that just happened to blow when you connected up to come home.
Hi My van is 1991 the car is 53 plates. My other car was 51 plates, but that one was fine, if they where incompatible why would there be power in the first place if the wiring was incorrect, even if only to make the switch flash and the fridge work for half the journey. Sorry for all these questions but i don't do much with electrics myself
