I just want to warn other caravanners about pre booking there holidays and been asked to pay in full. We booked to go to a site in yorkshire three weeks ago and were asked to pay the full amount for ourselves and friends who were going with us. The day we were going was the weekend of the floods and we recieved a call from the site saying they had to cancel our reservation because they were on flood alert. They didnt want to refund the money so asked if we would re book another date, which we did for this weekend. On thursday after hearing the forecast for more severe weather we rang the site and said we didnt want to risk travelling when it was forecast for really bad weather and further flooding. We were told that the site was open and that they would deal with the situation as it happened, I asked if we could re book another date and was told no way if we didnt turn up we had lost our money, no refunds would be given out. "Very good customer service" hence to say we will never be visiting that site again.

they cancelled,so your money should be repaid in my book.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Hi Debi - what a rip off! We were evacuated from a site on the banks of the ouse mid-holiday when it started to flood and they wouldn't give us a refund. Anyone any idea of what rights you have in these circumstances?
It will prob. be the case that they entered into a contract with you to provide services and they cancelled. They broke the terms of the contract. Where it may get sticky is that you then agreed to alternative dates. Had you just said no, we can't make any other dates, then you'd have been literally home & dry. I have found Consumer Direct to be very helpful on this sort of issue. Their website will give you the numbers you need. I think the campsite is bang out of order for doing this to you. Good luck and hope you get your money back.
Please name & shame these, as we are in that area & new to caravanning we have decided to just stay local this year.
We should have been travelling to Hope Valley this weekend & when we phone to ask about the flooding the owners were lovely & said we could risk it but not to worry if we didn't as we would be very welcome to stay another time. In the end we decided against it. The flooding has been very bad in our area & the water at some point was waist high. About half mile away it was up to top of garage doors.
As you can imagine we've posponed to another time.
I would get in touch with citizens advice or at least threaten to do so & see what happens.
This would dfiniely fall under the Sales of Goods Act and I would take them to task on it. For more info google "Consumer Action Group" where you should get some really good advice.
I am going to contact them again tomorrow to appeal to there better nature, I took an alternative weekend in good faith when they changed my reservation at the last minute. I told them last week I would take an alternative wkend even if it was in september, but because it was me cancelling it was a different matter. The weather forecast said servere weather and not to travel unless it was essential, but they didnt want to know. I understand that there business has been very badly hit by the storms and I didnt mind losing a deposit at all but not the full amount, (considering they cancelled first). I just wanted to warn other caravaners not to pay in full for there sites and if I dont get a partial refund I will be naming and shaming them.
