 how do i remove tree resin/sap from my awning

i was parked under a pine tree, and i have found several places of resin,on the roof, i managed to scrape a lot of the goo off, but it still leaves unsighty marks. any ideas please.....thanks

Hi,

I know that pine resin and turpentine are very similar, so I guess turps would dissolve it.

My only worry is that turpentine may lift the colour and/or the waterproofing so perhaps would not be one of my better contributions.
