OH has just come up with an idea, whether it's worth a try is up to you, he says get a length of dowel to replace your original hanging rail, drill holes at equal distances along the dowel and large enough for a hanger to drop into and hey presto a hooked in hanger that won't fall out easily if at all.

Elastic bands? Put elastic band over the hook, hang hanger on rail, twist the band around the hook. Never tried it, but just thinking aloud......... would love to know what people's views are on Fat Bum's question, i.e. will clothes in the wardrobe make the van unstable? I'm heading off soon to pack the van and this is one thing I'm not sure on - hanging things in the wardrobe would give more space in an already full car, but I wouldn't want it to affect how the van tows.

We always pack our clothes into bags for travelling as doesn't putting lots of clothes into the wardrobe risk making the van unstable whilst towing?    

yes we do as they are very heavy,two large bags of clothes.i place them over the axle with the awning.if you look at the end of the rail its only held on by a plastic U cup type thing with two tiny screws holding each end.is it not possible that the weight of the clothes could pull the rail off in transit?interesting subject,how much clothing should one need for a week away per person?

 I cannot believe that only one person has come one this thread to say that traveling with clothes hanging in a wardrobe is dangerous.

Bugger what is or is not written in handbooks about safety.

When that white van man whisks past you and gives you a wobble then thats when those clothes start a pendulum motion. Also regardless of where in the van the wardrobe is, those clothes weigh a hell of lot so tripple that weight when they get into full swing. 

We have seen more and more caravans snaking out of control. Also had one lose it in front of us, OH was prepared, started slowing the traffic behind, even before the full snake spun the van and car to face us in the 3rd lane.     

Lay your wardrobe clothes on there hangers on the front seats of the van or do you want to play tea parties on your travels.
