That is what I was told when coming into work this morning.  So I just checked it out.  Very very sad news but read below.

Driver killed in motorway crash
A driver in his fifties from Swansea has died in a road crash on the M4 which closed a section of the motorway.

South Wales Police said it happened at around 1500 BST on the eastbound side near junction 44 at Lonlas.

A blue Ford Mondeo collided with the central reservation and the nearside barrier and a lamppost, according to police.

Five-mile tailbacks built up while the motorway remained closed eastbound for several hours.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision or anyone who saw the Mondeo shortly before it crashed to contact them on 01792 456999.

The above is taken from the BBC web site, no mention of a caravan and there was no sign of a caravan when I drove past it the other way about 30 mins after it happened.  So why do people see the need to point the finger.  This time of year it's always assumed there is a caravan in a motorway accident!

Sorry but am I the only person who doesn't understand this post?   The only mention of a caravan is in the title of the post.   Is there something else you forgot to put in scarletsfan? - I'm a bit puzzled.

It is what I was told in work this morning, top line of post.  ie. the rumor mill indicating a caravan was involved, when it was not.

Whether or not a caravan was involved, it is highly unlikely that it caused a crash.

Poor driving, sloppy loading, inadeqaute maintainence could be cuases, but they all come down to a person or people, not a caravan.

Entirely agree, dirtydisco.  Any vehicle or its trailer is unsafe if maintained/loaded/driven in a poor manner.

The problem is that certain types of people detest certain types of vehicles, to the extent that they will leap with glee upon an incident involving an object of their hate, immediately blaming objects of that type as being the root cause of accidents.

Fortunately, common sense reigns in the brains of the sane.  For towing a caravan, I have never been quoted an increase in my car insurance, neither have I been subject to special conditions; and I do not know anyone who has.

Bertie.

I always find that when being told about anything I havent seen for myself the words " show me " usually stop the subject or indeed confirm what is being touted. ie:

"  There's an article in the paper this morning about a caravan causing a death on the M4 "

Reply:- " Show me "

I was trying to highlight how people always jump to wrong conclusions about caravans.

If you thought it was meaningless I am sorry for wasting your valuable time!

I'm beginning to think this caravan section of the forum is turning into a boxing ring. Thank you scarletsfan for your post, I understand exactly what you mean. If anyone else doesn't want to read it, may I point out the "Back" button on your browser.

Lets put the record straight on this one. I am not an antagonistic person. I don't go out to cause trouble least of all on here or other newsgroups.

Some of the replies seem to think otherwise. All I can say is you have read my post wrongly. As worded, above, it says "if it's meaningless" which was meant to imply the information was meaningless because it was untrue. If it said "its meaningless" then that would imply I was having a go at Scarletfan as an individual, which I most certainly was not. What I wanted to get across was the fact the the original information was from his workmate and was untrue. It was here that he should have had a go at his mate.

Hope this clears up things.

harryb
