Hi. We've just moved from a single axle to a twin this weekend, and immediately seen the advantage of having a motor mover fitted. We arrived late at the site on Friday and due to bad weather, ie no grass pitches, the only remaining pitch to take our van was a tight space to get in to, and the little man on his little red tractor had to help us out!

i've tried reading up on the different makes but they all vary in price yet all sing their own praises! any advice please?

I've had a couple before. I've just got the Reich 4 wheel mover. Its brilliant! has lots of torque and doesn't 'pulse' like some of the others. This enables it to turn tighter turns without having to do a 5 point turn.

They are expensive but if you get a lot of use out of your van like we do, then  you get your moneys worth out of them. I reckon we will keep this one and swop it onto the next van when we change. Its the best one I've seen so far.

If you can, try to get to see a few different makes working on twin axles and decide for yourself. Its worth doing the research first when spending this kind of money.

Its amazing how they differ.

Hi Mark and Kirsty

did a lot of homework on this subject last year, and its a minefield to say the least, but what i can say is i had the truma system fitted to a Bailey Senator TA and although it works reasonably well, and great for assisting in levellling i have got to say that its not used as much as i thought it would.

so keep doing the home work and even try going without for a few trips, you may well find its not neccesary in the UK, mine certainly has not been used enough to warrant the cost, the Caravanning public are always quick to help,

Cheers

I have a query on this too!

Like Mark+ Kirsty we have also just taken delivery of our first twin axle and are thinking about a motor mover - the only problem I foresee is that we are out rallying virtually every weekend and are therefore reliant on our 110 amp battery for lighting/water pum etc. How much "juice" does the motor mover use on average? would the battery recharge quick enough from the grey hook up lead whilst travelling (how long?). The manouver involved in our case would be a reverse and turn on the spot and that's about until we return back and would do it in reverse. Any viwes from current ralliers much appreciated!

I have just changed to a twin axle myself , so i got a front towbar fitted to the car mainly to push it up my steep drive way plus a steep ramp alongside the garage , i dont have a problem reversing onto any caravan pitch , just the sharp angles up our drive , plus with the front towbar you can see exactly where you are steering , and for   £180 you cant go wrong

many thanks for all your replies!! appreciated!!

I contacted a chap from the internet last night, trades as mobilemovers.co.uk and he agreed with 'splutterycar' that the 4 roller one is the best for a twin axle.

when i asked the difference vs. price he did say the truma new one, mover te, is just as reliable, yes you may have to turn in a few moves, but also cheaper. i appreciated his honesty. The truma also has electronic engagement as standard, the Reich charge upto £400 more for that, and I like gadgets but not the outlay!!

I also agree with david jh, in that we may not use it all that much. But when your mate suggests it'd be handy should i ever fall ill at the weekend outings, at least my wife could easily guide the van to hook up! So now that he's tempted fate............!!!

As far as usage goes though, we only started caravanning on 17th July 2006. since then we've done 73 nights away, including winter caravanning, so yes i'm sure we'll find time to have a go!! Wish we'd started sooner! great for the kids!

Oh, yeah.... in answer to Scufts, the bloke who fits the movers advised to have the 110 amp battery, so you'd be fine.

Incidently, thanks again to all replies, we've booked to have a Truma fitted next thursday!

Mark & Kirsty
