We almost always use full service pitches so I fill the tank with the hose from the tap. On the rare occasions when we're not on a full service pitch I have a "cheapo-cheapo" little watering can which does the job.
On a slightly different tack, can anyone tell me if there is a cleaner for the fresh water tank? Despite using pink flushing fluid all the time, I noticed snot like bits coming out when flushing the tank after use last month. No big deal really except that I was a bit concerned that one of these bits may block the nozzle.
We use the pink fluid in the top tank, and haven't yet seen any problems. Obviously, harsh cleaners such as bleach and the like must not be used. Thetfords do a special bathroom cleaner, so this must be safe to put in the top tank. If you poured some into a virtually empty tank, then added say a litre of fresh water and left it to stand for anhour or two. Then continually operate the flush, fill again with water and repeat flushing. Only an idea, but may ensure no blockages.
Bertie.

I have the ultimate no-nonsense way to fill up the loo...
I have an external 12 volt waterproof socket right next to the loo external service door. I have a piece of hose pipe attached to a spare submersible pump with an in-line switch which plugs into the socket. I carry a spare water carrier also for this purpose and mix my Aquarinse pink in the tank before transfering it to the loo via the pump. Easy. I always get envious looks from other caravanners when performing this simple operation!
We seem to have the same setup Emmo. Elddis Crusader Storm.
Ours was fitted as standard on the van which is now 15 years old. Can you not fit these set ups yourself?

Not sure Merlina40, my van is about the same age as yours, so maybe it was an old idea that didn't catch. By the sounds of the folk with later vans, it was a bad idea to discontinue it.
I suppose with a little know-how it shouldn't be too difficult to set up. It is certainly an easy job to fill up the loo with the pump and not have to mess around with watering cans and hose pipes out windows!
hi, i have a stretchey hose pipe & set up van near water taps (as a bit dissabled ) i fill tubs & top tank at same time, hope this helps happy vanning. san
A watering can fills our top-tank, which then nicely lasts a weekend (rallying, so no on-site facilities!). OH doesn't really find it that much of a chore to fetch a can-full of water every few days when we are away for longer.
Watering can here too, but I have stopped using the pink stuff in the tank as it actually causes those lovely lumps of black mould that Thetford then kindly sell another product to get rid of.
We purchase milk in a 2 or 3 litre plastic container, and save the container to replenish water. Its easy for any member of the family to carry full, when they visit the camp toilet, during the day. Also use to frequent top up of water carrier too. Saves the big lug with the roller, which we then only do once a day. My morning job, empty the full waste ones, and refill the fresh water.
The shower through the window is a non starter as our shower has no window. We get about a weekend from a full tank on the loo which corresponds approximately to a full cassette. With an electric flush, I expect we use more than the average manual flush. A large watering can looks favourable. I always plan to pull up to a tap on arrival and fill up, but have never remembered to do it yet.
We usualy use a 5 litre water bottle or our fire bucket when on Camping & Caravan Club sites although the latter mostly ends up on my feet
We are getting a new caravan in a few weeks that appears to need a watering can or at least a funnel to fill the loo as the top tank is different to our old caravans
It's empty milk bottles for us - we carry 3 - 2 pt plastic bottles. We usually need to put a 4th in if we're away for a week or so - and we don't often use sites with facilities.
