Abattery compartment can always be fitted.  But it might be an expensive undertaking. especially if a new charger unit is needed.  I am sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly.

Hi, we were considering an Eriba caravan and I asked the dealer at Lechlade if a motor mover could be fitted, and they said yes they could fit a Reich one.  I know Eriba's don't have a 12v system as standard, but I didn't ask for the technical details of how they would do it I am afraid.

What do you do if you take your Hobby to a site without EHU?  Or isn't it an option?

A 12 volt system without a 12 volt battery seems very strange.

Bertie.

true some caravans do not have a battery and rely completely on the EHU.

I have a Hobby excelsior 2006 & had the battery fitted when purchased from germany, we then had a Powertouch motor fitted over here, couldn't live without it, as these are very heavy vans to manover by hand.

We have a Dethleffs van which was built for the British market, so it does have a battery compartment. We have a Reich mover fitted.  Presumably if there is no battery compartment, there will be a transformer to operate 12v lights etc, but this will only work when you are hooked up to the mains.

I have a Hobby and was surprised not to find a 12v battery. It took me 30mins to search every nook and cranny only to find that if I looked in the handbook, it states that the transformer does everything....

So why have a battery when 'power hungry' vans need mains hookup? This is the problem. Vans are becoming more power hungry so 1 battery will never be enough so here comes the mains connection. I had solar fitted to my last van so the charger was never on, and it would have been sufficient to keep the van topped up. But we still used the mains where supplied!!
This van need a motor mover fitted so a battery was installed and charger. I'm going to get solar fitted again as it's kinder to the battery as well.

Like Mark52 we had a battery fitted when we bought our Hobby in Belgium & then addded a Powetouch mover over here.

German spec vans do not have batteries - the assumption is that you will always be on a site with EHU so it isn't needed (they find the concept of getting togeher in a field with no faciites very strange!!)
