Topic: Best route to Scarborough

I'm a bit worried about taking the A171 to Scarborough due to the hill outside Guisborough. I am used this route several times before but never with a caravan. Do caravan regularly use this route.

I have a new Bailey Ranger and suzuki Vitara Grand so do have a bit of pulling power, but would hate to try and not get up.

Is there a easier route around this area, someone suggested the A170 but this has a hill where caravans are band. Whats the route around this hill like. Is it ok.

New to caravaning and do,nt want to get into hot water.

go this way all the time with my van on the back and know quite a few from this area they all go that way with there caravans not a problem at all

forget about the hill its only stiff climb enjoy your hols

i agree i take this route from scarborough to scotland with my caravan twice a year with no problems

Takes me back to the first time I towed our van north of Scarborough towards Whitby and up Cloughton bank, following a coach with a dodgy gearbox in the crawler lane he stopped three times and no one would let me out to pass

Moral is don't get to close so giving yourself plenty of room to keep speed up and get out... because after stopping on very steep hills it ain't easy getting moving again.

to be honest even with the van on i try to get a little runup in the dip before as there is nearly always something to overtake doing 30 or less and if there isnt i just stay put in slow lane

I think your Suzuki should have no problem, as said above leave plenty of room in front of yourself and change down early.

Went the A171 to Scarborough last week and managed to get up the steep slopes easily. Panic over.
