yes 4 year olds do venture outside the caravan. mine goes out a lot with his 12 year old brother and he always knows were our caravan is. and he loves to be the first to find our caravan when we come back to the campsite. as children do.

sometimes if youve got nothing good to say then its best to say nothing at all.

Sorry, but it's nothing to do with saying something good - or bad. These days kids of that age shouldn't be out of sight, especially with a 12 year old having the responsibility of looking after him.

When we were kids, if we didn't find our own way home we would get a whack across the earhole which probably why I have an excellent sense of direction to this day as we were not molly coddled by our folks.  In those days no one would dream of raising windsocks etc on a site to spoil the natural beauty around your site.

some great feed back here folks!! wind socks for 4 year old kids who wander around with 12 year old's looking after them??

one of the reasons we started caravanning was because of the close safe community it offers us and our 3 kids. yes our 4 year old does go off with our 8 year old, out of our sight sometimes. is that wrong? possibly, but where does it stop?

we invested in 4 quality rechargable walkie talkies. each kid has one, knows how to use them, and does stay in contact at all times. great idea if you haven't already thought of this.

anyway, wind socks...... it's usually me that can't find the bloody van! sod the kids!

thats exactly what we do, give them rechargeable walkie talkies. there never far away anyway as we always go to sites with a playpark in site of the caravan, but its always better to be safe than sorry. our children are never alone, we always seem to be the caravan with the rest of the campsites kids at it. we always try to play lots of games and involve everyone. not everyones cup of tea i know, but until i am old thats what caravanning is about, fun with the kids. then when the kids go to bed thats a different story.

As kids we used to wander off for miles in the bush as we were trusted and you could trust your fellow human beings.  Sadly this is no longer the case and really feel sorry for these kids who will never know what the word freedom actually means.
