I have just purchased a new 2007 Bailey Pageant Provence, collecting on Saturday.

I asked the dealer to check the combination of vehicle/van which he did on some software on his laptop. (Max of 89% MTPLM) which I was happy with, especially as the car will have a 105Kg driver, wife, 3 kids and a bootfull of kit!

However having read up a little on noseweight I am a bit concerned, the Peugeot has a very low 65Kg limit.

Can anyone advise on the noseweight for the Provence? (I have ordered a noseweight gauge for future use and will get the dealer to check the van empty before driving off)

OK, just spoke to Bailey technical support line and they said it has a 66Kg noseweight as it leaves the factory, that's with the spare wheel.

Sounds very close to me!

The MPTLM is around 1400Kg as I recall. Taking 7% of this to get the ideal noseweight for towing, the figure comes out at 98Kg which looks a little worrying.

I agree with you about the very low nose weights of Peugeots. As Purplehat says the usual guide suggests that 7% of the laden weight should be the correct noseweight. The problem with this is that only 4X4's have this sort of nose weight allowance. The Caravan Club have acknowledged that the 7% suggestion is a bit out of line with what can realistically can be towed by most cars. If your spare wheel is in the front locker you could buy a carrier that fits behind the axle. This would move some weight backwards. Suggest you always check noseweight before leaving for a journey.

Hi

Most tow cars take a maximum of 75 kgs but as you say 65 kgs is a bit light.

I'd have a job to keep my Pageant Bordeaux (similar weight?) below 80kgs and all I carry in the nose box is 2 x 6.5 kg propane cylinders. No wonder the BP Light cylinders are becoming so popular. Fortunately my tow car will take 100 kgs. Carrying the gas cylinders in the car should be avoided in my opinion. In the nose box they are securely fastened and well ventilated.

Removing the jockey wheel  for travelling only takes a minute and will reduce the weight but only by a couple of kgs

I think you'll have a job at first but it's well worth putting a lot of thought and effort into it for your first trip rather than either overload the car or put heavy items too far back. Is your battery box above the wheel, the same as mine?

My neighbours have a 307 SW with a Bailey Pageant, I can't imagine that any better.

I've towed trailers for years, sometimes with a large amount of weight.  We did have a caravan a few years ago but I wouldn't say I am very experienced.

First trip or two will be short to get used to it, I have the noseweight gauge on order which I will use regularly.
