Hi

Well we picked up our caravan on Saturday and towed it home, first time really scary but got home safe and sound. Looking forward to going away in it soon.

We bought the above wheel clamp, and am not sure if we fitted it correctly. I was told by the salesperson it would fit my 14" Alloy wheels. When we fitted it we could not get the clamp tight, you could move it about, not enough to get it off though. Any advice as to where I am going wrong, or are they supposed to fit loosly.

Regards

Tim

Hi Tim , i have the same clamp and 14 inch alloy wheels , they will fit fairly tight , try to wiggle the clamp about as you are doing it up so the jaws of the clamp into the center of the alloy wheel and between the spokes .
Only thing i didn't like with this clamp is the thin bars ( trangle shape ) that are supposed to steady the clamp on the ground , do compress the side walls of the tyre when the clamp is done up tight .

Hope this helps .

Hi Wizard

Thanks for your reply.

We manage to get the jaws of the clamp between the spokes fairly tight. But when I add the outer piece that fits over the wheel nuts and tighten it up, the jaws of the clamp start to open up resulting in the whole unit to be loose.

Am I doing something wrong?

Tim

Hi Tim , you need to tighten the jaws up a bit more , they will pull slightly open when you add the outside part , but the whole unit should be solid when the outside part is tightened . When you do the jaws up don't worry if they lift off the ground , give them a good tug when doing them up and make sure the jaws butt up tight to the tyre ( tread ) .

I have the nemesis and it's fine.

I do find the circular plate a little fiddly, you have to ensure to lifts over the bolt and then it'll slide to it's best fit.
Once it's on it shouldn't move about at all, I suspect you just need to have a play with it.

I have also just purchased one of these and found it a bit fiddly to start with, I clamp the rubbers on the jaws in between the tyre and the alloy rim.

When you get the face plate on it should then be solid, make sure the bolt to tighten the face plate doesn't get caught on the locating lugs.

It was trial and error with this clamp and it's a heavy lump to

It takes a while to get it right, so dont worry too much. There is a knack to these.

It will fit, its a good clamp I think. I always say, if its tricky to fit its harder to get off. The only thing that annoys me is that my alloys, if I stop wrong wont allow it to go on as the spoke stops it! Ive got used to checking the position before I unhitch now!

A bit of WD40 all around the threads and hinges works a treat.

I have also got one, but a bit miffed because it really seems to only really be suitable for fitting in front of the wheel, which I cant do because of motor mover, fitting behind the wheel leaves the triangular floor plate upside down making it even heavier to fit.

I can see the Motor movers would cause a problem, I can only fix mine on one wheel for the same reason as I have shocks on my wheels which get in the way.
