One of our Children has regular night accidents (wet bed), he is too large for night nappies and they never worked very well anyway.  At Home we have a waterproof plastic cover on the mattress as well as the original plastic bag it came in, we have to change and wash the waterproof mattress cover and bed sheets daily.

Can anyone offer solutions for the caravan as taking so much bed linen/covers is going to be impossible.  With a new caravan being collected on Saturday we don't want to get wet cushions or put the pressure on him about having an accident.

We have tried getting him up in the night to go to the loo but it doesn't seem to help.

Paul I really sympathise with you, I have the same problem with my lad...i get him up in the night around 12 o clock which does seem to help but we still have the bed mats on just in case as he has a new bed too....its rotten for them...and i wish there wa sa cure but there isnt they grow out of it or so im told but it doesnt feel like it to me as im still waiting....feels like its never gonna stop...had my lad to docs too to check for infections etc...hes fine...so we just have to wait....

we use the dry nites when away, they seem to work quite well when were away...but as you say...they dont work for you...I saw a thread on here not long back...someone put 2 bed mats inside the sleeping bag 1 to lay on and the other in case they rolled over....they dont tend to move that much when they are asleep anyway and you could always check its in the right place before you go to bed etc...

good luck!! its so embarrasing for them isnt it, I dread if he gets asked to sleep out, hes had sleep overs but we have been discreet...

someone needs to invent a sleeping bag with disposable waterporrof liners or something because it is a very widespread thing....

Hi there

Not sure if you know of these people http://www.eric.org.uk/ this organisation has heaps of information and help for parents.  My friend's daugher has been prescribed Desmo spray, a nasal spray which she has had great results with. You could speak to your GP.

Good luck with the new caravan.

Wendy

Years ago I had the same problem with my lad. My health centre supplied me with a pad for the bed which is attached to a buzzer that woke him up when he started to wet the pad. Worked wonders.

We had the same problem with our eldest girl (a REALLY heavy sleeper) and we found that if we stripped her from the waist down she seemed to be "more aware" and the accidents stopped. It might be worth a go!

Pampers do disposable bed protectors that you can buy from supermarkets & boots. I use them in the caravan as my little girl has not long been toilet trained but is 99% dry at night. We have so far had 2 accidents in the van and these have saved the cushions from a soaking.

Which reminds me, I need to get some more!

We had the same problem with my sons over 20 years ago.  We bought the very best mattress protectors, then put a sheet on - and over the sheet another sheet of polythene with a dry towel on top.  The towel was much more absorbent, and could be rinsed through with much less 'embarassment' then washing sheets everyday.  OK, it didn't go through a proper hot wash, but we did wash and rinse it well using a bio soak until we'd time to take it home and wash it properly.   Nowadays I am sure you can get much better pads, probably from a chemist, for people with incontinence problems, and it may be best to lay these on top of another waterproof barrier, on top of the normal sheet, on top of a mattress protector, so that there's some semblance of normality about the child's bed.

Fortunately they do grow out of it - and we managed to cope with scout camps, (yes it took that long!),  sleepovers, etc., with no one knowing that our sons had a problem.  They just took a supply of dry towels, and a large plastic bag, zipped, to pop them into!

We tried the 'eric' contact too, and they were an enormous help - I must ask, though, if you've seen your GP, because it's surprising how much help can now be offered to children with this problem.  It's great when they're all grown up, and the problem is never mentioned again!  They'd be horrified, now, if they thought I mentioned it to anyone - it's as if it all never happened, thank goodness!

my son is 10 and we have an incontinence advisor who supplies mats for the bed, we have 4 for him 2 for hom and 2 for te van, we also asked the dealers to leave the plastic on the beds so it doesnt soak into the matress and when we brought new matresses for their beds we also left the plastic on his one as he has ruined 2 so far . we also use the care mats from pampers and find the 8-15 pyjama pants work as well,

Our eldest is now 18 and suffered in a similar way so we know he will grow out of it, just need to find the best solution for the van.

Thanks for suggestions so far.
