Hi all,

I have an external gas connecton on my caravan for a BBQ.The fitting for the BBQ is a push fit.I am trying to find out if i can connect this pipe direct to my BBQ or do i need a regulator in the line.

(The connector is on the van side of the gas bottle in the locker )

I have made enquiries at my local caravan dealer and calor gas dealer but they have never heard of these external connectors.

I have Googled this and find that Weber BBQ's can be connected but even they are not clear if a regulator is required(according to the online info).

We have an external BBQ point on our 'van too - they are actually quite common, so I can't understand the dealer not having seen them before?!! Anyway, ours comes from the regulated supply, so needs no further regulation. Should be easy to check - follow the supply pipe back from the BBQ point to where it branches from the main gas supply for the 'van.

i would have thought that is it is connected from the gas bottle on your van it owuld be regulated from your regulator on your bottle so to speak

i watching this one as i have one on the side of my van but i havnt used it yet

All appliances in a caravan are taken off after the regulator. This takes the gas down to a pressure of 28mb which the appliances will have been set up for. The only thing you need to find is the shut off valve which is probably under the seat. I don't have one of these points on my van but I am a gas fitter and usually you have a hose screwed into a fitting on the BBQ and the push and twist fitting on the other end to connect to the gas supply.

I trhink that you may need to change the fitting on the BBQ side for it to clip into the caravan gas point. We have the skottel BBQ with 3 metre tubing in order for the BBQ to be well away from the caravan and we have had no issues.

We plug our cadac straight in, if you look in the locker you should see the pipe come off the regulator and to the point. We have a switch in the pipe in the locker and one on the point itself.

Many thanks for the advice and replies.I have received a reply from www.bbqworld.co.uk who also supply the connector pipes also Calor Gas Southampton also sell the pipes/regulators etc.

I wont need a second regulator the bottle one will do.
