hi all, have been quietly lurking as usual.but need a bit of help finding something.my van is just passed its first birthday and i am fed up with the switching of aquaroll to tank etc,i did see a post by someone a year ago who did a modification using the front locker lightswitch as a way of powering a submersed whale pump to fill tank.can anyone help me by directing me to post or by explaining exactly what was needed to do said mod. oh by the way it is a great fix and easily put back for resale of van.[yes my pump is noisy also].

Hi it was my mod that you read about

I bought a new Whale socket with side contacts and a Whale submersible pump.

In fact I only needed the side contacts so these were removed and fitted to the existing socket in the van side

The wiring to the front locker light was removed from the light and used to operate a relay to switch the new tank fill pump.Relay to take the load off the panel switch.

A warning light was installed next to the control panel and a pump saver switch set at 3min next to the inlet so that it switches the submersible fill pump off in case you forget(not vital)

The levers were set at tank fill

A new blue water pipe was added next to the original to go from a new hole in the top of the tank to the inboard pump inlet after removing the original.I sealed round the hole with silicone.You can remove the inspection hatch and place a container inside to catch any swarf .

This is a simplified version and you may need to extend/replace the blue water pipes in practice.

Now when we shower if the low level tank light comes on we can jusr throw the switch for tank fill and and use the inboard pump to continue showering while the submersible pump is filling the tank.

The levers need never to be moved again

On selling the van you just need to remove the side contacts from the socket and put the piping back as original .Reconnect the locker light wiring

The only thing that will look different is a blanking grommet in the new hole in the tank but that is under the locker anyway.

I  don't find our pump noisy but have removed the screws that hold it down to the floor.

The series 6 Senators have a 2 position switch for the pump on the control panel!!

hi john, thanks for the info,but i was thinking more on the lines of fitting a new piece of blue pipe from tank to modified whale socket,wiring up locker light cable to this[obviously]leaving   the levers set at tank to taps.then when low light comes on flick the  switch and it would refill from aquaroll,now where would i get the relay,what model is it and i presume it would be fitted where i find most appropriate.

i was in the caravan shop looking at bits today and they have whale socket service kits which have a microswitch[dont know]and some seals, there is only one side contact  though, what do you think.

Hi Alvin sorry I made a mistake above

Under pressure to go shopping!!

I do have the lever set to tank to taps and the new pipe is from the Whale socket to fill the tank

The relay is a standard 4 terminal relay used for fog lamps etc and is available from any motor accessory shop for about £4

You need 2 side contact strips --one for +ve na done for -ve 12v

The service dept may be able to supply/order the side contacts but you may have to buy the whole lot

we had a look at the new series6 and to be honest i dont think there is much difference,most of the new for 2008 stuff is bling.the door has been put back to stable type,it does have a good lock though,wonder why they did that. the lcd aint no selling point as most peeps have them now or are happy with their own one. 

the anti snake contraption looks good.

all in all i am happy to keep this one a while yert and will spend on a motor mover,do the water tank mod and hey thats that for a while.

Just had the 7 year old Carver mover taken off and a Powrtouch heavy duty mover fitted with auto engage this morning !!

We will also be keeping the Oklahoma especially as they don't do that layout any more and it suits our side of the bed/toilet trips!!

excellent, oh i just got a fiamma  caravanstorezip 3.6m the other half loves it.we had a half bean can temp for the first season[see profile heehee].anyhoo i had to pick it up in london and we were just pitching up in ludham[norwich] 480 miles from home.next morning off to dagenham east london for this awning.jeez 3.6 is a lot longer than it sounds.back window of car pops up thank goodness,loaded it in then came the "megabag"which has the sides and front[140miles ithink] MEGA is correct had to push and shove and bribe it to get it to settle down in the back,[preyed it wasnt car sick]off to ludham just getting parked and swmbo is wanting it fitted NOW.

you have to laugh.

anyhoo got it up but first time its not as easy as it says on the tin.i now love it as well,pics to follow.
