Hi

Now I have a Burstner van, I need to get it CRIS registered as it was not done by the previous owner. Does anyone know if you get a dosc9unt if you are member of one of the clubs as the person I spoke to on the phone did not have a scooby.

Also - is there alterantives to CRIS now such as micro dotting, ultra violet writing etc. If so, anyone used them?

Thanks

Scott

CRIS registration only costs a tenner... when you have a central register of vans why would any other method( even if its 'cheap) be more sucessful at getting you reunited with your van if it went missing and it never fails to amaze me that people will pay thousands for their caravan then quibble over paying a tenner to get it registered with the only organisation likely to get you and your van back together

*shakes head*

Hi,

Its noy a tenner, ist over £30 for a new registration I have been told. Ok, its not alot of money, but any discount helps, and thats all the reason to belong to a club, to get these benefits.

Maybe there is some confusion here.  All UK built caravans since about 1992 are registered by the manufacturer and have the windows marked accordingly.  New vans are usually registered under the scheme for the purchaser by the dealer.  Subsequent changes of ownership require a small fee for a new Certificate of ownership to be produced.

Maybe you are referring to the fact the the van has never been registered under the Scheme, which relates to older or non-UK vans - this I believe is more expensive and includes the necessary etching of the windows etc,.

I think one of the Clubs did have some offers running for a CRiS registration package - if I recall correctly it was the Caravan and Camping Club, but it was some time ago.

Hi Scott,

Congratulations on your new Burstner.

We have just bought a brand new Burstner & have had to get it CRIS registered as although it is a UK spec van due to being German it doesn't get registered when made so you have to apply to CRIS once you have bought it. They send you the stencil kit & everything you need. There is no discount with any club that I am aware of but it is the widest recognised registration system & it does work & most insurance companies insist on it although some will accept Thiefbeaters as well as CRIS.

Regards other security we have had Phantom Tracker fitted as required by the insurance company, as well as an alarm & steady locks & wheel lock! Phew!

Caravanguard give a whopping discount on your policy if you have a Phantom fitted and C &CC do a free motion sensor & 1 yrs free membership if you book it via their club secure system.

Good luck & hopefully you will enjoy your van as much as we do.

Caz

Thanks for that. I have requested a pack. CIS insurnace did not state I had to have it, but having it anyway.

Even caravab club wanted me to have phantom fitted if I bought a new van, so basically, bought a virtually new one so dont need one.

Whre did you get your Burstner from by the way?

Scott

Hi Scott,

We got bought brand new as the layout we have is impossible to get second hand, we have fixed double bed & fixed bunk beds.

We bought it from Derby Caravans which handily enough are just down the road so servicing is easy.

No one said we had to have CRIS they just recommended & expected it.

The Phantom was not required if the van & contents came to a value of less than £17,000 but as ours is over that we agreed that we needed a Phantom & plus if some toerag nicks it I would like him caught which is usually the case with Phantom. It's just the principle of the thing as I know that the insurance will pay out new for old but it gets my goat that we worked long and hard to achieve this so I will do everything I can to stop some other low life from getting our van.

Plus as we ordered our van from new we could have optional extras such as upgraded chassis for a higher payload amoungst other things.

Feel free to ask any Burstner questions if you need to.

I'm glad I read this as we need to get our (new to us) 2005 Burstner CRIS registered.....they were going to send me the pack and it never arrived and this has given me a reminder to chase them up. But 3 Burstner owners on the same thread, must be a record! We can have our own mini Burstner Owners Club. Ours originally came from Derby Caravans too.

Just because it isn't made in the UK doesn't mean it hasn't been registered. We bought a new Adria last year, sent the forms back, and 3 weeks later I got my CRIS certificate in the post. No fee paid by me!

We recently registered ours with CRIS and got a discount of £5 as we are members of the Caravan Club.  Our caravan is a Geist which is an import.  Paperwork came through pretty quickly and the etching kit for window within a couple or three weeks.
