You have cleaned the fridge with everything known to man, and I don't think that there is anything in the workings of the fridge that would cause a smell except possibly the gas in the cooling pipes.  If that was leaking then the fridge wouldnt work.  It is possible that someone has left something in the freezer then put the caravan in storage for a few months.  In which case you need to get right in to the corners with the cleaner and you may need you to remove some parts.

The only other thing that I can think of is that something has died under the fridge......a mouse or something!  I would take the fridge out and check and clean under and behind it too.  Whilst it is out see if the smell moves with the fridge.  Just be careful with the gas/electric connections.....if in doubt get someone who is qualified to do it for you.

hi i use fendox by fenwicks,if you get some and place a towel in the base of the fridge,mix a strong mix of fendox in a spray bottle a give it a good spray all over inside and leave it for 15 minutes then wipe it all out.never had any black bits or smells.

It sounds like the plastic lining of the freezer compartment has absorbed the foul smell - probably from some forgotten food item having been left in it previously.

I can speak from experience concerning the smell of dead mice.  We've had that happen twice in the office, where a mouse has died under the floor space. It's a very powerful and distinctive smell which pervades a huge area and I am pretty certain that the entire caravan would be a no-go zone if that had happenend!

I think you should return to attempts to remove the smell with cleaning materials - perhaps it would help to leave something in contact with the plastic lining for several hours/days - say a paste made from bicarb which could be left coating the plastic, or something that could be left in the compartment to absorb the smell somehow rather than just wiping it over repeatedly.

Other suggested odour-absorbing materials are - charcoal, cat litter or coffee grounds.

We had a similar problem and asked for advice and got lots of ideas re products and tricks re scrubbing all surfaces none of which got rid of the rotten bacony smell we had and then some genius asked if we had cleaned the grooves in the grey fridge door seal by pulling them straight and getting right in to the cracks. Doh!, ah well give anything try a bit of baking soda into the grooves and bingo no more pong. We now clean the seal start of every season.
