You may have to shop araound for insurance for German vans.

BUY british and keep the flag flying it is one of the only manufacturing industries we still have left

Plenty of choice and not just on price.

If they are bought in the UK and are legal to drive on UK roads ( ie not tto wide or too long ) then there are no issues whatsoever.

Are Adria German?  I thought they were built in Slovenia.

From numerous posts it appears that German caravans are better built but the bonus is that they come at a lower price with British spec.  I think I would seriously consider German as the next caravan as British manufacturers need a hefty kick up the backsidfe most of the time to get anything done.  It also seems that they have no interest in protecting British industry.

I think the main difference with non British vans is 1) the door is on the other side of the van and 2) the cooking facilities are usually a lot smaller.

I love my fixed bed Lunar Lexon.  Wide spacious feeling but still lightweight.

We have just got a Cristall this year and had no problems with insurance. However it is made to british spec with the door on the right side.

They are a German manufacturer but built in Belguim and are often stocked by the dealers who deal with Adria. We love it.

we have a bessacarr denaby, (german) and must say, even though she is 12yr old and has had four previous owners, the spec is fantastic and i had absolutely no problem getting insurance from the caravan club. I would say for you to look at lots of vans, you will know whats right for you.  Incidentally, i didnt specifically buy it because it was a german van, it was recommended to me and,  as i am a first-timer i took the advice.  I now need to find a porch awning, so any advice on porch awnings from anyone on ukcs, please let me know. cheers. Jane

Bessacar vans were made in the UK, always a nice van though and very well made.

Adria come from the former Yugoslavia but I'm not sure which bit. They're certainly not German!

I agree with BarkyBaloo. There are some very good British 'vans. We've had three Elddis 'vans with no problems at all. Prior to these we had a Coachman Mirage and before that a Monza 1400S. Apart from a bit of floor delamination in the Coachman - which was easily put right - we didn't experience any probs. with any of them.

Everything German is perceived as having superior build quality but I know people who have owned Mercedes and BMW cars and wouldn't have them again. They had nothing but problems with them and they were very expensive to repair. After-sales service was abysmal in both instances. I'd love to own a Merc or a BMW but not after what these people told me about them.

My neighbours wouldn't have anything made by Bosch in their kitchen after lots of trouble with a washing machine, but we're all Bosch in ours and wouldn't have anything else.

I think that for each person that has a good word for something there's another who will damn it.

I hope you make the right decision.........

Vic
