We are going to Cornwall at the weekend, could anyone recommend a couple of motorway services for toilet breaks etc with easy to use, dedicated caravan parking area's both southbound & northbound, for our return journey, on the M5?
Michael woods aren't to bad just after gloucester both northbound and southbound, Or Gordano (after big bridge at bristol) going south bound isn't to bad! They're all pretty much of a muchness, If you are stopping overnight taunton is cheaper than exeter if staying all night!
------------- Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
When we went to cornwall we stopped at michael woods as we know that the m4/m5 junctions can get very busy then we stopped at exeter svs before we hit the A roads nicely spread out and good for the dog aswell
Taunton Deane in between junctions 25 and 26 (taunton and wellington) is a nice stop. Avoid Sedgmoor services at Bridgwater. Also Juncion 31 Exeter Granada services are very popular and busy and you have lots of roundabouts and traffic lights (gridlock on a saturday) so I would avoid that one too!
When we travel down our first stop is at Frankley services (2 hrs ish of travel). Nothing special but easy to get in and out.
Next stop is usually Taunton Deane (2 1/2 Hrs ish). Again easy in and out
Agree with previous comments regarding Exeter Services. It's one of those without direct access on/off motorway. Depending what time you intend to arrive at Exeter whether you want to use it or not. It does have a large adventure playground so the kids can work off that excess energy.
Have a good holiday (we've another 10 sleeps before we start our trip)
forgot to say DONT stop at Cullompton Services (junct 28). Its not far from me and they are very fond of clamping there. Also was voted "worst services in the country"....I wouldnt go as far as saying that - but there aint anything there only a garage and mcdonalds.
We like Strensham and Taunton Deane too, both have dedicated caravann areas. Would DEFINATELY avoid Bridgenorth very tight reversing into lorry bays, made more unpleasant by jeering/cursing lorry drivers - it only took me 2 attempts so I didn't think I'd done too badly, but the 'experts' obviously didn't agree!
I would like to suggest visiting IKEA at top of Birmingham.... 2 min off motorway, chearper than service station and at the moment offering special deals if you take out a family card (free offer), just fill in form and post it in instore box then use. The family card entitles you to free drinks....
