Just arrived home from trying our new (to us!) fixed bed caravan.

And its great! We holiday with our 2 children aged 15 and 9. It's a real treat for everyone to only have to make up the beds for the girls. And soooo easy to keep the van lovely and tidy, (only 2 sleeping bags to put away..phew!)

I was a little unsure right up to buying our fixed bed but now I'm hooked

We have a fixed island bed on our Lunar Solaris with separate shower in the middle of the van and opposite the shower is the toilet with basin.

We love our van, no making up bunks and there is so much storage room under the bed.

We haven't regretted buying this layout one bit.

We have never used sleeping bags as I regard them as unhygenic unless washed after every outing.  We used bedsheets and a duvet which are changed on a regular basis.  No need for sleeping bags if you have afixed bed!

I would love to buy a fixed bed caravan due to my back, but my budget would not allow it.

Does anybody know what is the cheapest price i could expect to pay for one.

I would say on average £7000 for older model for cheapest but of course there is the odd exception. And depends if you buy from a dealer or cheaper with a private seller. The uk fixed bed caravans came out on the whole after the millenium. There is older caravans e.g german ones that are older and cheaper. Or you could consider buying an older caravan that has seating at front of caravan and at back. At back of caravan you could leave seating down as a bed and have that as a fixed bed or measure up and buy a dedicated mattress to make fixed bed.

We have a Bailey Indiana. Bed at back with shower and toilet next to it.We had it for my wifes bad back so we could put a memory foam matress on top of the original. It works OK. The van design is fine and very open but we have had a number of problems  problems eg fridge not working on mains -twice , microwave door not opening, roof fan not opening and a very noisy pump which Bailey wont consider  under warranty. I have had vans for nearly 40 years and this is the first pump to sound like a traction engine - what price progress, it must have been designed to be noisy !  I am waiting to se if they will accept the non working gas water heater repair under warranty but it is hard work. I dont like the twin linked gas system either as you can easily empty 2 bottles before you realize it.It is a big van to tow and it is not as relaxing as a smaller van to tow.Another step back from my point of view. If a bulb goes there is every chance of breaking the plastic cover getting the bulb out as you have tolever it out with a screw driver I am told ..... otherwise the van is fine.

We also have the Indiana, and have realised that our gas water system isn't working, we normally always use the showers on site, but this time we thought we would use our own facilities, and I can't get a hot shower, this forum advised to use the gas instead of the electric, but to no avail, the water just wont get warm in the shower, and yes we also have the really noisy pump!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, back to the fixed bed, it's great we have had our grandson with us for 8 days holiday, we let him have the fixed bed, so that we can stay up and watch a bit of telly, so we have had to make the settee up into a double bed, and sleep on it, and what a pain it has been!  I can't believe that people really want to keep having to  make up the beds and pack the bedding away every morning!

Hi All,

We bought a new an Elddis 544 fixed bed in June and we love it.

As these are wide vans ( 7 foot 6 inches) we have no trouble with space - that is for the two of us and the rottie. We looked at two berths but liked the extra room in the 544.

The fixed bed is brill we would not want to have to make up the bed evry night and its great just for relaxing too.

Cheers

Well we have a fixed bed bought in May this year and we both hate it!  Don't get me wrong the van is lovely just doesn't suit our way of caravanning...Now for sale in the Free Adverts on here..We want to go back to the end washroom side dinette layout just prefer the extra space this layout offers especially in the kitchen, and being a larger lady the wash room as well ..
