i have just purchased a 2003 abbey vogue gts , taking into account this is my first van , i have never towed before and are wondering which 2 litre car to go for in terms of econemy and reliability and overall performance.
whatever car you choose, you need to match the car to the caravan. There is the 85% rule which is well recommended for inexperienced caravanners. I took up caravanning last year and definitely would stick to this rule. Check out the kerb weight of your proposed car or max tow weight. Whichever is lowest, take 85% of this. This will be the max weight of the caravan your car can tow using the 85% rule. The caravan should have a MTPLM weight. This weight should not exceed the 85% figure. I have a 2 ltr diesel vectra kerb weight 1500, and tow a bailey ranger 540/4 which is 1236 MTPLM which works out at about 81% which is ideal
