We have a Bailey Ranger 510/4L and a nine month old daughter and we are finding sleeping arrangements difficult for all !

We have been making the lower bunk up into a single bed but she is now able to stand up so is prone to crawling and falling out. We looked at putting a travel cot in the L shaped lounge floor area ( and us sleeping in the bunks)  but we cant find a travel cot small enough to fit into the floor space anywhere in the van !

Does anyone have any ideas from experience ?

Hi,

We started caravanning with a toddler about the same age as yours. We had the self same problem. I actually used the side from an old cot and used some 'turn catches' to hold it in place between the top and bottom bunk.

Worked a treat! Made it safe for him and no lasting affects on him. Lol. He's now 12 and hasn't been scarred by his 'cage'.

Lots of secondhand cots out there.

We used a travel cot on our first trip with our daughter, aged 12 months.

The cot is too wide for the single bed, so I made an extension piece from chipboard, that extends the width of the bed to allo the cot to sit on it.

It narrows the door slightly, but is not a problem.

I use one of these for each of ours in our van to stop them falling off the bunks:

http://www.babycare-direct.co.uk/bedguards.html

They can be quickly fixed to bed bases (couple of screws usually provided) and then the kiddies don't go anywhere in the night.

Cheers
Matt

You could try the Samsonite pop up travel cot. A Google search should pull up loads of suppliers.

Now I use the double bed with my daughter (she's 2 now) and sleep with her so she cant fall out.

When she was younger & slept more it was more of a problem. I tried the Tomy bed guard but she tried to crawl over it! We tried a My first readybed but she hated that!! In the end I sat with her until she fell asleep then put up the Tomy guard. With her in the sleeping bag it was enough to keep her in bed until I was ready to go to bed too.

I hope you find something that works for you.

Anne

We know exactly what you mean, as our daughter is 18 months old, and when we go camping she wants to run round the tent at 1am!  I cant advise much sorry, only keeping her awake in the day so she sleeps better at night. If shes teething, try medised or calpol. We're off to Weston Super Mare on Saturday, and shes actually staying with my sister in law, so the other 2 (older) kids can sleep at night!  Good luck.

I made my own bed guard out of some hardboard cut to length with 2 slats to go under the mattress. made it high enough so "houdini" couldn't see over the top when he was sittting up. It also darkened his bunk, helping him to sleep. We also put a couple of cushions/pillows on the floor just in case he fell out. He never did and slept well. total cost was a fiver including fixings. Just make sure the slats go the full width of the mattress then it will be more stable.

We are going away in my uncle and aunt's caravan next weekend. We have a 3yr old and 6mth old. Our samsonite pop-up bubble cot will fit on the floor so I think we'll be sleeping in singles at the front with him on the floor between us, or maybe down at the kitchen end.
