Just caught this post while having a mooch on 'THE DARK SIDE'...

Just to give the other side of the coin a brief polish...(keep a sense of humour )

The reason why so many motorists want to overtake you (caravaners) is because your vehicles are renowned for being slow (and I include learners, lorries, caravans, tractors and JCB's etc). I drive between 25,000 to 30,000 miles a year and if I have to spend any longer in my car than I already do I might as well give up my wife and kids.

While this may seem obvious, and I take on board your stories of 4 seconds gained in a queue, the point is that if you don't overtake the slower vehicle, how long are you going to be behind it...and the next one and the next etc. I make no excuses for poor driving, bad drivers are not just problems for caravaners..we all have to suffer them.

As for BMW drivers...well, thanks to BMW's being marketed as the 'Ultimate Driving Machines' every prat with a fat exhaust pipe now aspires to own one. Personally, however, I'll stick with my Mercedes...it will no doubt serve me well when I'm old enough to warrant owning a caravan

Renowned or percieved.......there is a huge difference.

Quite right scarletsfan..I did use the wrong word.. notorious would have been better

Vehicle
Built-up
Areas *
Single
carriage-ways
Dual
carriage-ways
Motorways
Cars and motorcycles
(including car derived vans up to 2 tonnes maximum laden weight)
30mph
60mph
70mph
70mph
Cars towing caravans or trailers
(including car derived vans and motorcycles)
30mph
50mph
60mph
60mph

So, apart from the 20 and 30mph limits, caravaners travel at 10 mph less than I can (legally). With so much time spent in traffic in built up areas the last place I want to be held up (again) is by a rolling jam caused by a slow vehicle on a single carriageway A road. However, I didn't make the post to cause a stir..just really to offer the other side of the argument

what really p*****s me off is when you are trecking along at the legal limit while towing and some K**b sees you coming then pulls out in front causing you to brake then they only travel at 5 mph LESS than you were doing anyway.

why do they do it ???

then you get the morons behind who MUST get past because theres a caravan in front despite the fact theres a scania coming the other way , then they realise theres  a car in front of you so dive in to the gap at the last minute with said Scania flashing a trillion watts of lights at the bafoon overtaking, they then slam the brakes  on and eat up your safety zone and then cause me to brake again.

whats the point eh ???

hate em all, ALL OF EM !!!!!!!!!!

Agreed Bev and John...but I have to say that that type of driver would probably have pulled out in front of you even if you didn't have the 'van on the back..there are plenty of very poor drivers around the UK now.

PS...what's a K**b?  (couldn't figure that one out)

the thing that gets me more than any thing is that if the mindless fools on the road want to play around with their own lives that is up to them. But to risk other peoples lives then that is another story.

I am sick when driving on a road and some plonker overtakes comming towards me and i have to go onto bicycle path otherwise it would be a head on. This is a new road at Grimsby that mindless fools play with everyones lives!

And yes i agree that when hubby towing our caravan, some people only stay in front of us and don't gain any distance

Did you see the video that biker took of himself weaving along the roads of north yorks at 177mph? Imagine seeing that coming towards you!

I'm not knocking bikers, i'm one, and have been for 40+ years.
