   Hi Was thinking of buying a hobby 540ul is it legal to tow this model with a normal car as I have read a lot of hobby models need to be towed buy a plated vehicle.Also hobbys seem to depreciate quicker than other makes is their a reason for this. Thanks Bill

I believe the 540 is the biggest you can go without a 3.5 ton plus commercial vehicle. 

The Maximum Size on the UK roads to be towed by a car is:

Maximum length (excluding coupling and drawbar)…….7 metres

  • Maximum width……………………………………………..2.3 metres
  • Maximum weight……………………………………………3500kg

--I'd take a tape measure with you when you go & veiw it--over 2.3 mtres wide & you cant tow with car--Hobbys are good solid German built 'vans--much favoured by the travelling fratenity-who oviously arnt welcome on touring caravan/camp sites-as they tend to not move & not pay-as site owners are not allowed to display racist signs like-'No thievin' Pikey scum'--instead they put up signs that say 'No Hobbys' which might spoil yer hol-a bit-

Hi i have a hobby 540uk and tow it with a vectra 2.0 dti no problems with towing or getting on a site.The only problems you might have are with a twin wheel ,or a hobby thats 8ft wide.
