I think we all need to stand back and evaluate what we are trying to achieve. Security starts by locking the caravan and then moves forward at a pace.
Cost/Benefit has to be taken into consideration and also the loss of irreplaceable objects.
Look at your own house. Ive been in the security/telecomms industry for over 35 years and I can almost guarantee NO system is foolproof...you only have to look at some of the recent occurences to realise this.
The main objective of all systems is to make the potential criminal choose another victim. Its a sad fact of life but its better for you if your neighbour gets burgled.Fact
Some people have little or no security, yet complain when they are hit.
At the end of the day the choice is open to everyone. What will suit one person, will be unsuitable for another. If you live in your 'van 24/7 its unlikely that you will suffer a loss. And if your 'van is on your drive, shackled down, surrounded by a shark infested moat with a starving pit bull terrier inside, likewhise.
Unfortunately we don't all have access to equal facilities. If we did insurance companies would be out of business.
The best advice I can give is make sure you have visible deterrants. Labels are available from EBay...try this URL http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-5232-2978-1/1?AID=9479574&PID=1428744&mpre=http://stores.ebay.co.uk/getanalarm
Also you can have your post code put on the roof of your 'van so police can see it.

Also simple deterrents can include, removing your jockey wheel (5minute job)
See if your caravan stays have the facility to be bolted up or down..(look for hole in top)
Put a lock through the awning zipper..( I know, but its another put off...make them try another awning!)
Keep all nice to have objects out of view whenever possible. my neighbour on our site has just had his metal chimenea BBQ and a bag of coal stolen. He was more upset about the bag of coal as he was given the BBQ! Until he checked out the price of the chimenea and then he WAS upset (£120)
And lastly, if you haven't got them buy a wheel clamp and hitch lock .But use them please!
pps Its no good spending £500 protecting a 'van worth £1000!
