--Personally I wouldnt use a cover--you do hear stories of the surface of the 'van being damaged-& it might trap damp underneath which cant be good-I think it does depend on the material the cover is made from----if you have your 'van the drive -imho it is good not to 'forget' it for the winter ie go in it at least once a week & leave the door open for a bit-also put the heater on for a while in cold weather-& wash it about every 3 wks--works for me anyway--

Thanks Billy. I have a dehumidifier that i leave in over the winter when we not using it and open the sunlight if we have a dry spell forecast. As for cleaning every 3 weeks
most of the newer material are breathable and water repellent, the one i have is also soft inner so it does not damage the van , its also made to measure so no loose flapping fabric ! then again it did cost £260
My caravan cover is the best thing I have purchased for a long time. I thoroughly recommend them. As long as the van is clean before putting it on, it will be as clean when you take it off to use. It avoids the ugly black streaks and also keeps bird droppings off the van. What's more, it eliminates any possibility of water ingress in any suspect parts of older vans for instance.
The cover is made of a breathable fabric and is soft to touch and will not damage the van. It also prevents sunlight from fading curtains and soft furnishings and stops nosey parkers or intruders from seeing inside.
I would not be without one now. The only downside is that they are a pig to get on if you try and do it alone.
Our van came with one and we wouldn't be without it now. It will go on again in October when we leave the van in storage and come off in March and we won't spend a week cleaning it!
I considered a cover last year ( our first year winter with the caravan) There are hundreds of other caravan in the storage yard we are in and not one of them has a cover and these range from brand new top of the range vans to 30 year old vans with no windows (why they continue to pay a fortune in storage for these I have no idea).
Not one has a cover on. I guess they cannot all be wrong.
I was just going to put a new thread about caravan covers when I saw this one!
I've got a new place to store my ageing Trophy Agilic. It's free storage but it's under trees. I'm thinking of getting a cover to protect it from the stuff that will fall from the trees and the critters that live in them. Good idea or not? I aren't worried about the cover marking the paintwork - there's already 20 year's worth of wear & tear!
Hi, We use a towsure cover which is water resistant and breathable. Its a soft material and I've not found any marks made by it on the panels or windows and neither have i had to wash and work at removing black streaks, Bird S### or algae. Did forget to remove the pointed top of my status aerial and put a hole in it though...

Maybe Soundsdigital, these folk with the 30 year old vans have no where else to store them, but at the same time don't want to part with them because they give them endless pleasure when they go away in them. They probably don't see any reason to change the van they have (albeit 30 years old) as it serves their purpose perfectly well. there is also a possibility they cannot afford a new van or don't want a loan hanging round their necks for years to come to pay for one.

I take your point, Emmo, ours is 15 years old, but some of them have not moved for years and have windows missing.
we thought about caravan covers a few years ago but then I treied Fenwicks overwintering for caravans . once its applied it stays on for the winter and it washes off so easilly in the spring. I dont get any rubbing of canvas on the sides of the van , I can still tow the vehicle if needed and have full acess to the caravan
I have just ordered a new bottle from Soapysmiths and it now comes as a winter kit of the winterizer and two interia dry bags .
