If I have understood other websites properly, Astra 2 is a collection of 3 satellites within a small area which are recieved at the same time on the same dish, but with different reception area footprints. One of the satellites is hard to pick up outside of the uk so the channels on that are only likely to be picked up in the uk area.

I got rid of sky a while back due to poor service.
To be honest I'm surprised they can tell you to leave the box on permanently when in this day and age of global warming, they tell us to switch electrical items off when not in use!
If they tried to have on this i'd take it to your MP, see what they thibk of SKY!
I was thinking of getting a satellite set in a case from Maplins. Do you get a good signal wherever you are in the country?
Never had a problem with the Maplin one. Excellent value for money, the compass included is a bit rubbish though. I find that you have to set it to Either Berlin or Hamburg, rather than London to get it right. That said, it is not too difficult to set up without a compass, just look at some others. Astra2 (Sky) is the first satellite from East. One small thing is that the signal meter will confuse Astra 1 and Astra 2, so you can be set on Astra 1 with a good signal showing, but unable to get any Astra 2 channels (since you are pointed at the wrong satellite) but once you have done this a couple of times, you soon work out that you need to move a few degrees east.

I believe the Maplin / Lidl / Aldi ones are all the same, but a Comag Porty II is also sold by Aldi / Lidl from time to time as part of the set rather than the more common Comag SL65/12. The SL65/12 has more features than the Porty II and apparently can be patched to receive some subscription channels on Astra 1. (Not tried patching mine, but might give it a try one day)

The bigger the dish the harder it it to find the satellite
Holding the dish at the outer edges gives more movement than turning the pole and makes it easier to "fine tune"
If you look at the map its easy to see that some of the footprint does not extend much farther than Northern Spain so no Corrie south of Barcelona
It is possible to switch to the south beam of Astra but I have never needed to do that
