No it's not normal, the ignition should stop when the correct type of flame lights, that is a bright blue flame which appears to 'dance' gently on the burner tops. You will need to remove the front to see the flame through a viewing window, the fronts held in place by two small screws at floor level....nose to the carpet to see them!!

Normally the ignition sequence should shut down and the green light will flash if the flame is incorrect yellow and lazy looking, also if a correct flame lights but the electronics don't recognise it's lit because of a poor connection between or their faulty, then it should still shut down and flash the green light. If it continues to run and the ignition as yours does not stop, then the problem is defiantly a fault on the electronic control switch on the wall.

Does it ever flash the green light if you turn the gas off for instance? Does it come up to temperature, shut down and then relight as required? or is it permanently on??

As for the fridge, you have ignition so either there is no gas to the fridge or no gas getting to the burner and this will most likely be a blocked jet. Make sure gas is getting to the fridge, turn knob to '3' or 'high' whichever it is, pull off the knob and push in by the valve spindle alone for a full minute without trying to light it. Now wait a full five minutes before once again pushing in the spindle and now see if it will light?

If not then the fridge needs to come out for a full service, if it does then flame colour is still important so again it will need a service if yellow.

If it's nice and blue and replacing the knob and turning to low, medium and high shows a very slight difference in height of the flame, then all would appear to be OK.
