Hopefully picking up our new caravan (first time shed draggers) at the beginning of December, so our first trip away will probably be over the Xmas break.

Can anyone recommend a porch awning, that will stand up to the rigours of a British winter? obviously the cheaper the better.

Steve.

Steve.  We had a 'cheap' porch awning, one of the dome style ones and it was ok until the wind picked up when we were out.  We came back to devastation - and threw the entire thing in to the bin!! (I know lots of people use them successfully, but we are totally put off this type now). We have now bought a second hand porch awning from Glossop, a good quality Trio (I think, might be Isabella?) with the padded sides etc.  We will be trying it out in Derbyshire in November, and I hope it will be fine.  I would suggest go for the best you can afford - cheap isnt necessarily the best.  We wasted £100 in the first place by going 'cheap'!!!  You may pick up a bargain this time of the year with trade-in's etc, so ring round the dealers, it may be worth the time spent.

Hello

I am also investigating a porch awning. Would love to buy one of the bradcot or isabella sorts but need one which is kinder on the pocket. I have narrowed it down to the following:

The porch-lite xl A dome style awning. Watch out for ones similar where the pole round the top hits the side of the van and dents it. With the porchlite xl the pole butts upto the rail along to top of the van so no dents. Found this for £111 plus £8 p and p on ebay.

The Sunncamp Ultima 260. More of a conventional type which you can hang a sleeping pod in if you wish, also comes in a 390 larger size. Found this for £130 plus £4 p and p on ebay. Can have problems with water gathering on the roof.

And the Sunncamp Contempo. This is my favourite but they have discontinued it so its rarer than rocking horse pooh.

The big NOs for me were:

The PDQ, sounds like it does loads of damage, and is so cheap it doenst last long.

And anything that hangs on the side of the van, which also causes damage.

Any of the smaller versions of the porchlite xl, these hardly seem worth it for the little space you get. Some do seem cheap and cheerful.

I think at the moment I am going for the porchlite-xl.

Hope this helps, I have been struggling with the same decision myself.
