We do most of our caravanning in the Winter and seem to be having real trouble getting a TV signal in the places we go to. We donlt bother with the TV in summer but in the winter when it is dark early I can't miss stictly come dancing!! We have one of those arieals on a pole but have real trouble tuning it in, Can someone explain to me very simply what we would need for a satellite signal please? Also how to set it up and approximate costs.
Hello. I'm new to this site having just changed Motorhome for caravan (on order). Last year I purchased one of the Maplin/Aldi etc. suitcase satellite kits (approx. £70), which I found to be absolutely superb. They come with complete instructions, and after a couple of attempts to lock on to satellite, no real headaches. For more info. anecdotes on this subject just do a forum search. Hope thats a little help.

The Maplins system for £70 ish contains all you need and a doddle to set up as long as you're not pitched in amongst the trees. You must be able to point the dish at the southern skies.
We bought a skybox for £20 from ebay and use our card from home. We bought complete dish set up from here for £65.99 that goes up really quickly. Thats all you need.
You don't need to spend a fortune on equipment, check ebay theres always plenty of systems available. The main thing you need is a satellite compass ,this will show you the general direction your dish needs to be pointing , after that you can usually get up and running by using the signal strength page on sky. Patience and practice is the key. definatly check the above link brilliant site that will give you al the information you could possibly need.
Got my digibox for free from the local freecycle, he was updating to SKY+ and did'nt want two boxes. Got a dish thrown in as well, spent £30 on a decent tripod. Have'nt bothered with card for channel 4 & 5 as I believe these will become unscrambled in the near future.
Hmmm think it may be a problem getting a signal where we are going ( Castlerigg Hall in Keswick) as from memory to the south east of us there is a hill!!
