Has anyone any experience of using any of the motor movers that run off the battery and drive the hitch, e.g. Big Foot or Euro Tech?

Yes a Mr Shifta- it was a waste of time unless your on flat tarmac , if your on a slight gradient be it of grass , mud , shale , stone forget it ! You can't beat a proper chassis mounted motor mover that drives the caravan wheels..

had a eurotech for 2 days, bought it off ebay and when the ground was slightly wet it would just spin the wheel. moved the van about 4" and that was it. flogged it at a profit though.

avoid !!

I only want it for moving things round on my drive which is tarmac with a barely noticeable slope, both units are light by caravan standards - 450 Kgs & 750 Kgs max laden - I need something that can be used for both, not left attached to one.

Can't justify the expense of getting a proper mover fitted - had one of those on my last caravan and it was excellent (Rhyno) but looking for a cheaper solution that I can use on my Freedom and on my Combi if I need to move them and the kids aren't about to give a shove.

No good getting the one that has a separate battery - I would need a mover to move the mover!

We used a Mk1 Mr Shifta to move our Conway Cruiser (Probably quite a weight when fully laden). It was fine moving the unit in and out of the garage and out onto the road but couldn't cope getting it on to the drive from the road because the unit wheels hit the rise up from the road at the same time that the shifta wheels hit the slight hump from the pavement to the drive.

Thanks Anne, so it would cope with my driveway then. But isn't Mr Shifta the one that has a battery on it? Would I be able to lift it to store it away when I'd finished with it? That's why I like the idea of the ones that attach to the caravan/camper battery.

Is a winch an option for you?  I guess it depends on what maneouvers you are going to be doing, as winches aren't as flexible as a mover.  We just used a manual winch when we had our Freedom, to get it up and down our sloping drive.  We used to push it on site, it was easy enough as pitches are usually fairly level.  I couldn't reverse it for toffee so all manouvers were manual!

Your van's are so light a full mover on the wheels is overkill so I would agree that a hitch mounted one is going to be your best bet if a winch won't work for you.

Good luck with it...

Hi,caz what about the purple line hitch drive thingy, you just put it in place of the jockey wheel and wind the handle and it moves manually, might be a tad cheaper but are quite good at the lighter van range

regards S/C

A winch wouldn't be any good for moving things round as I want to put things in different positions sometimes, in front of the house and up the drive. A friend tried the Purpleline thing but said it wasn't much good as you couldn't wind it and see where you were going at te same time.

Bob, I'd be very interested in the Eurotech, and you only live up the road from me. Could you e-mail me via a message to Webmaster on the Contact Us button a the top of the page, please?

Thanks.

We have the bigfoot on our van, the van is about 800kg all loaded up. i use it to move in an out of the drive area, and it will go up the slight gradient, however if it is wet i just have to put some weight on the A frame and its ok, ( i just stand on it to enable some better grip), i attached another jockey wheel bracket to the side of the frame so i can have it on as well as the standard jockey wheel. i also wired the lead for it so i didnt have to keep opening the battery door. and leave that on the time.. i am certainly pleased with ours, as i can move the van on my own.
