Anyone travelled from Nottingham/Mansfield area to Scarborough?

If so, what route would you advise whilst towing a van?

Thanks

Hi

I think I'd do A1 to York then A64 around York and on to Scarborough. If the thought of Staxton Hill puts you off, (its not that bad really) carry on to the A165 at Filey and hang a left.

Cheers

Paul

No need to touch Staxton Hill.

M1 north to A1M to A64 all the way to Scarborough.

Nearly all motorway or dual carriageway except for some parts of A64, no major hills at all.

i am going next week and live in mansfield. i will go M1, M18 then stay on there until reaching Howden. Then i take the Selby road A19 i think until reaching other side of York A64, then previously mention final bit. i use this route as M18 is usually quieter and the Selby road is quiet. i hate the A1 north from M18 upwards as it always seems to be busy as is the A64 with all the stop starts at the lights around York.

I live in Castle Donington, Derby  and frequently go to Scarborough. I prefer to go up the M1 then the A64.

I have often tried the MI - M18 - A1(M) A64 route but there is still quite a lot of dual carriageway on the A1 and if its busy it can take a lot longer. the difference in distance between the two routes is less than 6 miles, the MI - A64 being the further but it is usually a lot quicker depending on what time of day you use it.

There are a couple of hilly bits on the A64 just after Castle Howard but before Malton otherwise it's top gear most of the way. Where the dual carriageway ends before Malton there's a particularly strange hill albeit a short one. Using it for the first time you would think that there's something wrong with your vehicle but it's one of those optical illusion hills which are steeper than they appear to be.

took us 2 hours to do Selby - Scarborough last weekend , the traffic on the A64 was horrendous, every stretch where the dual carriageway went to single there was a delay.roadworks on the A19 between selby and York wasted another 30 mins

I once towed our Leda Pennine 6 berth up Staxton Hill with a Sierra ...and with a small moped just in front of me.....who wouldnt shift over to let me get a run at it ...I just ran out of gears before I was halfway up.
