Hi,

I am new to this, so please bear with me!

We have just bought ourselves a 1978 caravan and we cant wait to get out init!

The inside is covered in dark wood, and would like to know is there anywhere or make that does paint for inside the caravan? I would love make it a bit brighter in there.

Anyone got any ideas?

I havent tried it myself, but you could always wash it down with sugar soap solution and then when you have dried it well, apply some emulsion (water based?) and if it looks ok, apply some clear varnish (matt?).  I know you can do this with ceramic tiles, so should work ok in the van.  I would do a small patch first though to see it looks ok, probably inside a cupboard or similar.

We did it years ago on a 1980 elddis, Painted all the dark brown cupboards with white gloss, Put nice handles on them, Painted the walls with kitchen and bathroom paint a really light blue and re-covered the cushiopns with blue fabric, I even made a tiled effect in the kitchen with self adhesive square lino kitchen floor tiles, cut them into 4, blue and white and made a checkerboard pattern,Then used those fake laminate planks to give the floor a nice effect, Looked stunning,

We painted the bathroom bright yellow and put new floor tiles down.

We even lived in it for 18 months while we were saving to buy our first house

Ended up donating the van to the local dogs home to use as somewhere for the staff to stay when they had to stay overnight as we bought a newer caravan.

Hi srush, i too have just bought an old van and doing it up i've just used b&q's own kithchen/bathroom paint in ours and it looks great you can't tell its been painted i used a neutral cream colour and it's really brightened it up!

One tip is make sure you have some very small brushes (like artists brushes) before you start because the are some very narrow gaps and lots of nooks and crannys, i didn't and ended up using my kids paint brushes!!

P.s there is nothing nicer than doing your van up yourself and see it comming along i've got so much satisfaction out of doing mine!
