£8 is £8 - I would certainly complain!  Did you pay by Paypal? They're normally pretty good at refunding if you report something like this.

We have melamine, but don't use the cups as we heard about staining.

No probs with any of the plates and bowls though.

I have twice reported items to eBay as they were very definitely not as described.  Both times the sellers would'nt respond but they did very quickly after I reported them and sent refunds!  Also, both times I found eBay very helpful.

Don't let the seller get away with it.

As to melamine v crockery, crockery wins everytime with me.  As clbewi says, plenty of shops sell it cheaply enough that if anything gets broken it's not a tragedy.

Complain to Ebay and leave negative feedback if they don't send you a refund.

We use Milton to clean the mugs - just leave them to soak for an hour or so and they come up a treat.
