Hi our caravan has an external gas pioint which we are hoping to use when we use our gas barbecue. Can anyone tell me what connectors they use to connect to the gas point, it looks as if it might be a bayonet type.
You should have had one supplied with the van. I found mine in the cutlery drawer! If not any good caravan accessory shop should sell them. We find our external gas point very useful particularly abroad where it can be very hot if you cook in the van. Also try and get at least a 2 metre length of gas hose so you don't have to have the appliance too near the van.

Remember to get enough hose to enable you to take it well away from the awning canvas too!

Good advice. Our hose is 4 metres long. Apart from keeping clear of the awning (and van; you don't want heat too near this either), it is sometimes necessary to position the gas appliance so as to be sheltered from the wind.
Is there a maximum recommended length of gas hose?
We went back to using a gas bottle in the end. The length of hose to take it through the awning, then enough to keep it well away from the canvas if it fell over, and enough to be able to move it out of the wind should it need it didnt bear thinking about !!
In most cases, the specified maximum length of hose is for H&S reasons (tripping, damage from other factors, etc). It is nothing to do with the correct operation of the appliance. I bought a gas BBQ from Calor of Southampton, and they also supplied a ready to use hose of 4 metres at my request. At the time I asked if this length was OK, and they confirmed that the issue was H&S, as I have said.
This was a question I raised some time ago and I was told there was a maximum length, although it wasn't specified what the reason behind it was. So I did an internet search and found the following:
I'm not very technically minded, but in the section headed Hoses, it does give maximum hose links there, which quotes "c)be no longer than 400±50mm or 750±50mm if a pull out tray is provided". Is this for the reasons Bertie raised I wonder, or is there more to it?
I would really like to know as we are keen to use an external gas BBQ, but have been put off because of the hose length issue.
Mine came with the van its brass about 1" long and I use 2 metres of hose. The connection is a push fit into the hose and then a push fit into external BBQ van point. To release fitting and hose you push an outer ring towards the van and it allows the hose/fitting to drop free - very simple and positive. However if you forget to turn off the Van BBQ point - you cannot release the hose/fitting, so very safe.
