Hi

I'm taking my caravan in on saturday for some warranty work. I usually take everything out, but it can take half a day, and its cold and dark now, so how much "stuff "can I leave in?

Crockery, folding chairs, hoover, cleaning stuff?

Anybody leave it all in?

The warranty work is a noisy water pump that cuts out.

I was told by one of my local dealers that not only does it give them better access to everywhere, it also avoids any possibility of anything going missing if there is nothing there to go missing - I guess they've had their fingers burnt over someone's property not being all there when they got their van back so they're covering their backs. They insist that the van is completely empty whatever it goes in for.

If your dealer isn't bothered, then I would take out anything that lives in the gangway and all the stuff that's near where they need to work, plus anything of value and anything I would hate to be parted from, just in case.

In the last 3 years of services we have never removed 'stuff' from the van.

Knowing British workmen (no, we're not all the same but) I'd make sure there is good access to where they need to work. The easier the access the better a job you're likely to get done.

So for a service, yes pretty well empty so you get a good damp survey, but if it's just for the water pump talk to the dealer (it could be just the pump replacement or include access to electrical wiring etc).

And it'd be rather silly to tempt people if you have any "goodies" on board.

We take most of the stuff out, the dealer said they prefer easy access to all the parts they need to get at, if they have to move stuff out it costs you more! They don't mind a few bits in it.

Our local dealer is excellent- Salop caravans at Cosford, really nice people and very helpful, (as is their branch in Shrewsbury.)

No I don't work for them, just like to give credit where due!
