If your not going out again till the new season, the smart money is to remove the filter and empty it out [the charcoal filling] and then replace the empty back in the aperature. Drain the system and your good for the cold weather.
Don't know about removing completely. Possibility of any water left inside freezing I suppose. They recommend that it's changed at the start of the season anyway (that's if, like us, you have a Winter lay-off). If it was removed I would think some sort of packing would have to be used in the opening to stop deeper freezing. Gawd knows. I do know that when I tried to remove ours I had a hell of a job. The wing grip being made of plastic, I was afraid to put too much force on it. Did eventually free it with a pliers, very tentatively. Left it loose now and covered the thread with vegetable oil. If it freezes it freeezes. The type on our caravan is the Carver Mark 2 water filter. Replacement is only £6.85. Listed here with Towsure Sorry I couldn't have been of more help Ray
i would remove it over winter for the simple reason,if it is not being used over a time span of months bacteria can grow on it.feel sure they should be changed each season anyway.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
hi.yes you should remove it, leave all taps and drain valves fully open, then next year replace with a new filter as it is recommended to replace after 30days use.
If you don't want to keep replacing the filter , fill an old one with marbles, dont leave it empty as it will probaly airlock, we did this but we never used the caravan taps for drinking water.
