We have been looking at the Suncamp lightweight awnings but they all appear to fit an awning rail height of 225-250cm, problem is our Mayfly height is only 215cm. Does anyone on here use one with such a low rail height? one would be ideal for weekends rather than put up the full awning

It might not be too much of a problem - ours seems too short slightly so you may be ok ay.  Can you go and see one at a dealers and measure up to see how it would go? To be honest they are a bit draughty all round and so we don't mind that it is a bit short!

My Avondale Ulysses was 229 cms and the Panorama XL Scenic I had never fitted properly - I was surprised what a difference a few centimetres could make.

I can't understand why they don't make ones for shorter vans as there are a lot about which are below 230 cms. The one I have now is about 211 cms.

The only answer I get from the manufacturers is to try a motorcaravan awning - all very well but they are more involved to erect, like putting a tent up, and a lot are too short as they are designed for VW campervans etc - awning rails up to 210 cms. Only the Movelite by Outdoor Revolution would seem to fit my caravan and I don't like it.

My Dad has altered the poles of an Ultima look-alike to make them adjustable so it will fit his lower van (and it means it's adjustable for uneven ground too).  If anyone is interested, I'll ask him how he did it (ours fits OK without the adjustments, so we've never bothered).

I have a porch awning that I use for weekend trips, its much easier to put up then the full size awning, which I always use if going away for a week or more. The porch awning is handy to put the boots and raincoats in etc in wet weather, and there is also plenty of room for the table and a couple of chairs.

Scampi, please could you ask your Dad what he did? I'm thinking of trying to adjust one; how about shortening the "canvas" as well?

Our caravan slopes at one side so OH cut one pole down to fit.  He tries to get it as tight under the van as he can, but we maily use ours for storing his dialysis fluid in so it does not matter if we get draughts

I'll ask my Dad what he did as soon as I can - I don't know if they are away this weekend, but I'll ring him.

Thanks, Scampi. I tried an Easi Canopy last weekend but it was only up an hour and a gust of wind pulled out the peg one side and threw it right over the other side, bent both poles beyond repair.

Hey ho, back to the drawing board.

Hi, We have the Sunncamp Ultima 260 and have used it eight times and I would say they are great if where you are pitching is level, we have struggled with sloping pitches as the fibreglass poles supplied are not adjustable (Scampi, I would like to know how your Dad did it too), so with the rail being lower you will find that the polyester sides will fit at the top but will be pulled away from the bottom, leaving a gap(took a few trips until I figured that one out!).
So with adjustable poles it may be okay, they're really good and easy to dry on a washing line if you have to leave with it wet.
Cheers,

-------------
Lawrence

Adjustable poles seem to be a great idea.  We also find with our Ultima 260 that uneven ground does effect the fit.  Look forward to seeing the solution.  Although I will carry on with the Ultima as it is so easy to put up and as Lawrence says dries very quickly.

I bought a camper van awning for our ABI caravan as i could not find a porch awning to fit the low sides of our van.It is a NR one and with the adjustable height of the tunnel connection.Have not been able to try it out yet (van in storage) but dont see why it wont fit ok.Besides it was a bargain from local camp shop at St.Leonards Dorset.£.75.as opposed to £.300.or so.NR sent me a set of instructions on request on their web site.Very helpfull company, especially as I bought it second hand.

The lightweight nylon 'dome' style awnings are great for a quick erection!   but last weekend I found it almost impossible to put it up in a strong wind as it kept flapping as I tried to shove the bendy poles up the sleeves.   Why bother I hear you ask, but with a large dog that needs rubbing clean before it gets in the caravan it is really needed in wet weather.
