Mine is on the drive because I couldn't afford storage.  Added to that it's easy to pack up when we're going away and easy for cleaning etc.  Also, when I have people staying (ie over Christmas), I just plug it into the electric, put a heater on and sleep in there!  It's like having a spare room!

I live at the end of the road and it can be a bit tight but mine is light enough that I uncouple it from the car and manoeuvre it onto the drive by hand.  I double checked with neighbours first that they didn't have a problem with it being there but they were fine about it.  It IS a bit of an eyesore I have to admit, but on the whole it works for us.

Al-Ko wheel locks can be removed in minutes, indeed there was an article in a magazine a couple of months ago showing the lock lying on the owners driveway. They only delay the inevitable, if they want the van they will have it, the weak link to any security is how you attach the van to it.

How many cars are stolen each week?  Nothing is totally thiefproof.  You have to keep your car at home and I find it practical to keep my van on the drive.  How good it looks isn't relevant as I can live with it.

our van is quite long so although it fits on the drive (just) we have ours in storage we can come and go as we please and it's only about 15 minutes from our house. We tend to leave it packed ready to go other than fresh food and clothing. We just bring it home every now and then for a good clean.

I would rather keep it at home in reality but i do panic about it being stolen when it's on the drive eventhough it is alarmed, hitch lock and wheelclamp and we block it on the drive with the car

Do your neighbours consult you before they do anything on their property?  I think it is pompous to think that other peoples drives should be used only as neighbours see fit.  I did actually consult my neighbour, but I already knew before asking that she wouldn't have minded.  If people haven't got more important things to worry about than vans parked on drives then they need to get a life. But that seems to be all part of ultra politically correct Britain.

Does anybody care if people who live in the places we camp actually mind seeing their countryside full of multi-coloured tents and white caravans?  I am sure none of us let it spoil our enjoyment.

we got our van in october with the intention of having a few weekends away in it then into storage. its still on the drive now. it is a bit tight, we have the van in front of the garage door on the drive with usually my zafria next to it (slightly on the grass) then my OH parks across them both on an evening. this isnt ideal and as we live in a close we have been half expecting some complaints from neighbours or a letter from the council. no one has complained so far. the nearest decent storage to us is a 20 minute drive and like someone has said the opening hours are restricting. if we wanted to drop the van back off after a certain time on a sunday we can but it would cost us about £8 for the privilage of opening the gates, this would soon add up especially as we plan to use the van all year.
maybe when the better weather comes we will look into taking up our front grass and paving it so at least we can get all 3 on the drive. i can sort of understand people who dont like to see caravans on drives, it can look a bit chav if you like but personally it doesnt bother me, i certainly wouldnt complain if it were neighbour of mine, i suppose the only circumstance would be if it were a huge van and it was blocking out peoples light or something! but i agree with brianconwy, its usually only people with nothing better to do that would make a fuss and complain!

I see Skatty is surfing the caravan side trying to wind people up  a well known tintent hater.

Ours is indoor storage at farm close to us ,we have access 24/7 and wash down faciltiys and the cost is reasonable .We keep most of what is needed in the van except for fresh food bedding and clothes take those across the night before a trip

We used to keep ours in storage but found we did not get away as much as we wanted because it was a chore to go get it and having to let the owner know what time we were coming and going.

Last year we -sorry - hubby paved the back garden and now the van sits there. We get away a lot more, cleaning and checking is so much easier .We - sorry - hubby had put in a hitchlock to attach the van to whilst in place and as you would need at least 6 men to manouver it into if we did not have a motor mover, we feel that it is actually more secure.

And of course the money we have saved pays for all the extra weekends we now have ---- we are winning all ways.

Mine's in the back garden, I love it there because I keep a small fan heater on frost guard on all the time over winter keeping it nice and dry, we can wash it, pack it, or escape in it if I need to do paperwork in peace, glad not to have to pay storage fees to.

Mine used to be in storage as I lived in a flat, so had nowhere to put it.

When I moved into my current house I took it out of storage and it is now stored in my garden. I am lucky that my property has a large garden and I have enough room down the side to be able to take it round the back of the property. From the front you dont even know its there. I prefer it at home as I can pack and unpack at my leisure and it costs nothing to store it there.

I think "vile" is a bit strong - ugly may be a better choice of words - but I do agree in principle with what you say Skatty. I have always stored our caravan but I'm currently wrestling with the idea of keeping it at home now that my storage fee has topped the £500.00 mark for the year. I've cleared all my lines legally and with the neighbours so it's now just me coming to terms with keeping it on the drive at home. Can't say that I'm all that keen, but I'm not all that keen with parting up with £500.00 for something so mundane as storage either.
