Hi peeps!

We're off in the van after Christmas with our 2 pooches, who are seasoned caravan dogs! We used to leave our old cat in the care of number 1 son and all was well.

However, son has moved out and we now have 2 new kitten/cats and haven't let them out yet (they're about 5/6 months) Don't want to let them out, then go away, so we're thinking of taking them with us. We've planned it ,but if anyone has taken cats away, is there anything we should be particularly considering? They'll 'reside' in the end washroom at night, but join in the festivities during the day!!

Are we mad?

We sometimes used to take cats with us. Sadly lost the last one after we changed to a folding camper - she got out on the last morning and disappeared.

We always made sure she didn't get out of the caravan the last day, not so easy with a camper. On other days she used to roam off during the day but came back in the evening, on the last day we couldn't wait till the evening and had to come home wthout her.

Yes we took our pedigree show kitten away just over a week ago. He had a show to go to so taking him saved us getting up at 4 am.  He was fine, just ensure they have food bowls, water and litter and something to tire them out.  We would never let him out though.  Last time we had to go out in the evening so confined the cat to a pen, a dog crate would work well.   We are working on something light but strong to take in the summer so that he can go in the awning for a while.  My biggest worry other than letting one out would be it getting too hot in the summer, if we went out for the day and had to shut the van up. We are also training him to a harness but I would be careful where he was walked if dogs are about.  We own four cats but enjoyed the chance to spend time with just one so nice we are thinking of taking another one on a weekend trip.

We always take our cat with us in the caravan.We've done it ever since she was a kitten and she loves it ,although she is very nervous when she she sees her travel box she hides away .I've got to make the awning secure as she loves to sit in it and watch the world go by (as we all do) .She is now trained to a collar and lead and loves to go for adaily stroll around the pitch.

taken my cat in our camper for 4 years now, i use a lead and a harness for walking, but apart from that he loves going away, infact whaen i start packing hes the first to get in and wait for the off, so i cant pack the day before of he wont come out until late at night.

We have 2 kittens at 4 months they are more scared than curios and that seems to have made them better companions.As we let them roam free during the day (they dont venture more than 50ft away)they are more appretiative of your company in the evenings. Please remember though cats at that age cant tell if vehicles are toys or dangerous! Just the other day our kittens got onto the chassis of a camper as i was saying adios to the people. It wasnt until it was outside the gate that they jumped of! YET ANOTHER GREY HAIR!!!!

Our siamese have always camped with us.   They travel in a cage on the back seat, then move into the caravan when we arrive.   They love it, and are fascinated by all the different places we go.   I NEVER let them loose though, too dangerous with cars, dogs, kids, foxes and other cats etc etc.   They come for walkies on their harness and leads most days if it's dry.   On a Friday before we leave they know what day it is and make it very difficult to get in and out of the house door with stuff as they say I'm not leaving them behind (as if............)  then sing their little heads off as I carry them out to the car when it's hitched up to the caravan.   Jan
