I am looking to fit an external socket to my Buccaneer Elan 15 caravan.
When I fit this socket, I don't want to cut through any struts or cross members that might weaken the structure of the caravan.
Does any-body know where I might get a diagram of the structure of my caravan, giving the location of struts and cross members of the body.
Thanks in anticipation.

near impossible to find one i would think.i would say tap lightly where it is to go and the sound difference may tell you where the struts are.after cutting to the required opening take out some of the insulator material and replace with a wood frame glued in on the inside.you can then screw through the alloy and into the wood.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

You could try using a baton detector as used in DIYing I think they do ones that will detect calbes pipes and wooden batons so it may well work to find the caravan frame

rather than cutting out the side of the van , why not fit an external " blue " 16 amp socket to the underside of the van, in a position where you can plug in an extention cable with a 3 pin socket on the other end , for use in an awning . ive used this system for years, and the blue socket should be ip44 spec.
then just drill a hole up through the floor into a cupboard to run the cable through.

thats what I have done!
mainly because the price of an external 16A is much cheaper than a 13A.
just make sure you have an isolator inside somewhere, else its live all the time, I put mine under a locker. just above where the socket is.

How about fitting a socket inside a locker ( my caravan has one ) , just open the locker door , plug in , and trail the cable out thro a gap made down by the hinge .

We've got an 'outside' socket fitted in the side locker - we always leave this open anyway when the awning is up and this works very well. The socket is switched from inside the 'van - the switch is located at the end of the front seat right next to the door to make operating it from the awning easy. There is also 12v power in the same locker. Works well!!!
We also have a twin socket extension lead made by JCB. The socket end has two splashproof sockets that are fitted to a stake that pushes into the ground. Focus were selling them at about £15 some time ago - don't know if they still are.
