These are my thought too Vic.
As i mentioned in my previous thread 'how often do you get away'
We gave up last year due to health reasons, things are alot better now and we were considering starting up again.
But, after working out how much time we will manage away with work, footy and the financial side of it, i don't think we will be bothering.
We enjoy the odd times we are away but it just seems to be getting so expensive, like you say nearly 2k a year, that is a hell of a lot of money plus the added fuel costs.
Also i must admit i do like to be waited on on my hols and the extra comfort of a nice roomy hotel, not queuing for a shower.

You and I are DEFINITELY on the same wavelength my friend.
I find the expense particularly punitive as I am retired and live on a pension. This is no sob story. With the site operators wanting bigger and bigger deposits and then wanting the balance not weeks but MONTHS in advance, the whole caravan concept has lost its spontaneity and in turn I have lost my appetite for it.
Trouble is we have a lovely caravan which we've had from new, it's all paid for and my fear is that if we got rid of it and then realised we had made a mistake, we would never get back into caravaning at the level we are currently at.
Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place.
Vic
