We have exchanged out Avondale Orion for an Eldiss Typhoon but have kept the old awning which is far too short for the Eldiss.  We were expecting to have to purchase a new awning, but were shown a pole that you can use to adapt our awning by a fellow caravanner.  Does anyone know the name of this pole and where i might purchase one?

I cant c it being just a pole. The awning will end up as a porch kind of thing, and will need altering. how much shorter is it?

U can get it made bigger by a mtr, I dont think they will alter it any bigger,

I understand that what you are asking is, You want to make your awning into what is termed a "combi" awning. Isabella do a pole called a "BS pole" this attaches to the rafter by the side of the caravan and with 2 pices of "double click profile" and a "pole pad  you can make the seal by the van like a porch does. the advantages of the double click profile is that it holds the pole,pad and the awning beading all together.

Isabella do steel,fibre or carbon x versions of the pole but most people I have sold to have used the steel version.

Now for the good bit.!

To see wether the awning is suitable for this transformation into a combi you will have to do some acurate measuring.

1. find out how high your van is to the awning rail.

2.from the middle peging point on the side that will be out of the awning rail and down the side of the van, measure the hight of the van and mark.

3. measure the remaining distance to the other middle pegging point.

4.Now on the van measure from the floor up into the awning rail the measurement that you got in No.3 amd mark on the awning rail. This is the part of the awning that will be in the awning rail.

Now step back and look where the mark is on the awning rail (remembering that the side of the awning kicks out about 12'') look to see where the side of the awning comes down the side of the van. If there is a window below I would not reccomend that you attempt this conversion as the pole and pad could dammage  the window.

5. If all is well and you have double checked all measurement at least 3 times.

 On the awning beading where you have marked the hight of the van, get a blunt pair of plyers and snap the internal plastic bead( making sure that you do not dammage the outer fabric) you may have to work the plasic by hand till it snaps.

At this break in the inner bead, is the point that you feed the awning into the rail.

Cost for the pole etc is aprox £50 (Steel)

If you got it all ok it can look very good but be warned this job is not for the very nervous and I accept no responsiblities for you getting it wrong!
