Hi Everyone,

I need some advice regarding motor movers. Can anyone recomend which one they prefer? Has anyone done it DIY and had any problems?

My other half is unable to assist me in moving our van for the forseeable future and we will be going away from February onwards.

I have had a Pwr Touch since buying my Bailey Pageant Provence nearly 3 years ago and have had no trouble with it, I have a steep drive with limited access to turn the van and it handles it with ease.

The other thing that impressed me with it, was Christmas 2005, we had spent the Christmas break at Sandy Balls and when we got back to Sussex, found it had been snowing quite heavily, I had about 2 inches of snow on my drive, my heart sank thinking what I would do with the van, with the local site closed for the winter. I knew I had to give it a go, as I had no where else to put it.

I was amazed , the Pwr Touch took the van up on the drive and completed the full turn onto the standing area wihtout as much as a slip. I only have about 6 inches each side of my gate posts to clrear the van and with the steepness of the drive thought it would slip and slide down the side of my then new Pageant.

We are upgrading to a new Senator this Spring and I am buying another Pwr Touch without question. Brilliant..... 

We have a rhyno and it has been great.  It is the lightest and has the most ground clearance.  Some movers have nylon gears which can wear over a period of time and slip.  The Rhyno is made in this country and has proper metal gearing.  It copes well with our 1in 5 drive as you can see here.

We can recommend both the Truma and PowrTouch.  We had the Truma on our single axle and thought it was the best invention ever!  So much so, we agreed we would not change the van unless we could afford to have a mover again.  This time with the twin axle, we got a great deal on the PowrTouch with our Senator.  We had a problem to begin with, but that was down to a poor fitting by our dealer.  PowrTouch came out within a few days and refitted it properly and it is great now.  Couldnt manage without one I have to say!

You really shouldn't have to buy a new mover unless you're doing it by choice..........

If you plan to change your mover from one caravan to another, be sure to check the MTPLM for the new van against the outgoing one.  We had a Powrtouch on our last van (1,100 kg MTPLM), which I fitted myself.  Our present van is 1,430 MTPLM, and needed a more powerful mover (achieved with extra gearing).  Powrtouch did me a great exchange deal, and again I fitted the mover myself.

Have an original 2003 Carver [Truma] mover which was transferred to my new van last year.

Never had a problem with it even though it is used every trip especially at home when it is used for approx ten minutes every trip to manouvre our van from the road to its parking spot.

We frequently see people manually lugging their vans around to position them on pitch, or bring them to the car for hitching up, even though the van has a mover fitted. I cannot think of a sensible explanation for this practice, other than having neglected the leisure battery so that it will not do the job.

We always tended to reverse up to the van, pulled, pushed etc etc even when we had a mover on the van.

Then for some reason it suddenly "clicked", why bother? At home we always bring the van out of the drive and up to the car and hitch painlessly every time!

We now use the mover everytime we hitch on site because quite simply its so much easier! No more hassle etc just totally relaxing and 100% accurate everytime!

In my opinion the best caravan accessory ever apart from perhaps the cassette toilet. Anyone in agreement?
