I've been having a general nose to see what we can get 2nd hand but one thing that keeps cropping up is on 4 berth vans it seems to be a double and then 2 bunks. With the age of the kids the bunks could cause us problems.
Can any one point me the direction of a make that would have them as bench seats instead or am i just gonna have to wait till the kids get bigger? I don't want to have them in the awning as that's where we'd be sitting once they've gone to sleep, plus kinda takes the point away from caravan instead of tent!
Try a 5 berth double dinette. A double at each end but has a bunk over the rear bed if needed. Nearly all manufacturers make them and they suit all budgets.

We have an ABI Sprinter 400. double dinette turning into two bouble beds. Are you after two doubles or a double and two singles? Only there's quite a few vans out there with a fixed double bed and the settees get used as two singles.
i would say the double dinette . the swift danette used to be excellent . the single seats at the front can be made up as a double or used as singles and when the rear end is not made up it is or was L shaped then could be made up as a double with a bunk above. thus a five berth. i always thought this was a very nice and spacious layout ..
We have an Abbey Aventura, back seating becomes our double and the front seating is two comfortable singles for our growing children. There is also an additional bunk which goes over the back double, but we have taken that out. We had the same dilemma as you and found that by buying a five berth you get the one double and two singles.
I msut say I do like the double lounge set up - seems quite adaptable to anything - you can set it up for married couples or the kids friends without making things awkward!
We have a Swift Challenger 550. It has a big double at the front, a single down the side and a single at the back which can have a bunk above if you want to use it. It is ideal for us as we have 3 kids and wanted seperate beds for them rather than a double with a bunk above.
