Hi

We are thinking of trading our current caravan for a 2002 Elddis Crusader Superstorm. We are impressed by its features and finish but have read a few 'dodgy' reviews about towing and more worryingly reports of structure problems. Has anyone anything good or bad to say about the Superstorm which might help us?

Also, having never towed a twin axle before, will this be much different than a single axle?

Thanks

I can't comment on the van you are looking at but we have upgraded from a single axle to a twin axle and I have so far found it very easy to tow, even easier to reverse as it doesn't 'wander' like the single axle used to.  It also seems to be alot more stable when lorries pass it.  We also love the space we have with the twin axle.  Someone else will be along soon to give you some advise on the van

Like Diane, I cant comment on the van structure etc but we looked at them when trading up from a single axle to a twin, and they look lovely!  Hubby does the towing and he raves about the twin axle.  He maintains that it is far more stable, and easy to manoevure.  We do have a twin motor mover though for the awkward spaces and couldnt do without it.  Good luck with the search,

Nicky

I've never actually owned an Elddiss, but they seem to have a good reputation for being solidly built (bound to get dodgy ones in every manufacturer though "Friday Built").

We have a twin axle but its sited.  If we decided to start towing I'd invest in a motor mover, apparently they're worth their weight in gold.

Although i've not got the Superstorm i do have an Elddis Crusader and am more than happy with it. It's not long back from a service and the engineer said it's most definatley one of the better quality vans he's ever serviced which i was pleased about.

We have an Elddis Crusader Sirocco twin axle.  It is a lovely van and tows great.  We have the Winterhoff stabiliser which when we first started towing felt stange.  We have always had an Alko.  Then we lowered it on the plate and found a better ride height.  It now tows like a dream.  The alarm on the van is great operating on the keyfob.  It charges itself whilst on tow and is ready to use as soon as you need it on.  The awning light comes on when you set or unset the alarm.  It is easier than the keypad versions.  The only probs we have with the van is when we took delivery of it the blacked out back window has a large scratch across it (outside).  14 months later we are still waiting for the window to be replaced by the dealer. Elddis had sent them one but on fitting it, Wanderholme found this to be scratched as well.  We are still awaiting the fitting of window no.2!

Everything else with the van is lovely though and is very comfortable. We would recommend this van.

Elaine xx

We dont have a twin axle, but we do have an Elddis Crusader Aurora which we have owned for just a year. The quality of the inside fittings is good-no handles have fallen off,no trim peeling etc, and the upholstery is still perfect after using the van all year about every second weekend, a week at New Year and Easter and Whit, and for three weeks in france in the summer. The mattress on the fixed bed is actually better quality than the one in our bedroom at home! The only thing I would change if I could is the colour of the carpet as it is a pale cream shade that is impractical on a camping field, so I have large navy bathsheet towels draped over the carpet as a protective layer from dog paws and damp feet.

Hi Valencia

We have an Elddis Avante and would love a Superstorm, except the car we had when we bought it would not have pulled it. Since buying we have joined the Elddis Owners Club, and found them to be some of the nicest people we've ever met. I know that some of them have Superstorms, and I'm sure they'd be happy to give you some advise. Go to www.elddisownersclub.co.uk and click on Guestbook. And if you decide to join, we'll hopefully see you on a rally sometime!

As long as there are no problems we pick it up on the 19th April, cannie wait...

Our previous van was a 2002 Super Sirocco, and we had 2 serious problems with it.

Firstly, it went back to the factory due to the kitchen unit pushing the wall out, it was a known problem due to the unit having a bracket/support at only one end, instead of at both ends!

Secondly, at the 2nd year service damp was found in the rear offside corner and was supposedly repaired by the dealer. However, a year later when it was being traded-in for it's replacement, a 2005 Super Sirocco, damp was again found in the rear offside corner!! Whether it was a fresh problem or the dealer hadn't repaired it properly the previous year, I don't know.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!
