Hi, as we are complete and utter novices, thought I'd ask some questions about insurance. Firstly, do I have to let my car insurance people know and secondly what about my breakdown cover. And just to prove that I am ever so thick, wheres the spare wheel on my van, anyone know?

As usual I am very grateful.
you must let your insurance know you are towing a caravan,no increase of payment should be required.if you have breakdown cover ask if they also pick up the caravan.we have green flag with the CClub.the wheel is only in three places as a rule, under the caravan,in the front locker, under a hatch inside the caravan.the caravan needs separate insurance.the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Yes, you should let your car insurers know that you are towing and you should check if your breakdown cover includes a caravan.
Also, there are varying degrees of cover, eg. the car breakdown service might recover your car and caravan if your car breaks down, but would it cover an issue that arises with the caravan itself? e.g. a flat caravan tyre.
Your van might not have a spare wheel, they are not standard equipment on all caravans. If it has one already, it will be in the front locker, or suspended underneath on a cradle, or on some models it is under a hatch in the floor of the van.
