We are going to buy our first second hand caravan at the weekend - moving from camping....but was wondering seeing as we will be travelling up the otorway quite a distance whats the legal requirements for a number plate when you first purchase it. Are these on line number plate makers legal?

You should be able to get a number plate made up at Halfords , you'll need your log book , a house hold bill , and proof of ID .

I just bought 1 online, it arrived next day & looks perfectly legal to me, too much hassle getting 1 from Halfords with the spotty little herbert checking my details & then telling me he has run out of a letter that the plate needed,15mins of my time wasted. 2 mins to order online & £7 cheaper too.

If you can't get one made in time, remove the one off your car and use it temporarily.

As long as the caravan is hitched up to the car, its legal.
